ILS Background Information
The Institute of Language Studies (ILS) was first founded in the liberated part of Aleppo in 2015 with the intention of empowering people there. As English can be considered the most influential language in the world of Politics and Journalism, it was taught for that purpose. In addition to General English, understanding American Culture and British Culture were basic g
oals; Creative Writing was also taught then. In 2017 and 2018, the same subjects were taught in both the western countryside of Aleppo and the city of Idlib. The message of ILS was still both personal empowerment and Public Speaking Skills. In 2022, with the increased acceptance of online education, ILS started the Continuous Learning Program- CLP (Grammar, Translation, The 4 Basic Skills, with a focus on the subskills of Pronunciation and Vocabulary Building). The new program has been focusing more on personal empowerment, and the program is still developing. A considerable number of those who have joined the program are university students who want to increase their knowledge and practice of the English language, mothers who can attend such a program only online, and humanitarian workers who are seeking better positions through improving their English. Talking about positions, ILS has no leading positions. Instead, a board of all the committed teachers who taught between 2015 and 2018 is responsible for decision-making through continuous consultation. This policy of management has proven flexibility and success in achieving the ILS empowerment mission.
