🌍 8 September | World Physiotherapy Day 2026
Moving for Health. Preventing Disease. Transforming Lives.
On World Physiotherapy Day, the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the British University in Damascus (BUD) proudly joins the international physiotherapy community in highlighting this year’s theme:
“Prevention of Stroke and Cardiovascular Health”
This theme reflects a fundamental principle of modern healthcare: prevention is an essential part of clinical practice, and movement is a powerful component of lifelong health.
Physiotherapy extends beyond rehabilitation. Through evidence-based exercise, physical activity, functional training, health education, and lifestyle-focused interventions, physiotherapists contribute to health promotion, risk-factor management, functional independence, and quality of life.
This preventive role is particularly important for people living with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions associated with increased stroke risk, as well as for older adults and individuals experiencing prolonged physical inactivity.
Prevention starts with informed action
🫀 Move regularly
Regular physical activity, adapted to individual health and physical capacity, supports cardiovascular fitness, metabolic health, healthy body weight, and overall physical function.
🫁 Breathe and keep moving
Appropriate breathing exercises and regular movement can support respiratory and cardiovascular function. Avoiding prolonged sedentary periods is particularly important for maintaining mobility and physical well-being.
🧠 Manage stress
Long-term psychological stress may negatively affect cardiovascular health. Regular physical activity, adequate rest, healthy routines, and effective coping strategies can support overall well-being.
🥗 Nourish the body
A balanced, varied, and nutrient-rich diet is an important foundation for cardiovascular and metabolic health.
🩺 Know your risk factors
Regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood glucose, together with appropriate medical follow-up, supports the early identification and management of important cardiovascular risk factors.
A shared responsibility for healthier communities
Stroke and cardiovascular disease are major public health challenges that require prevention, education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a sustained commitment to healthy living.
At the British University in Damascus, the Faculty of Medical Sciences is committed to advancing evidence-based education, scientific excellence, health promotion, and socially responsible healthcare, preparing future health professionals to contribute meaningfully to healthier societies.
On this World Physiotherapy Day, we celebrate physiotherapy and its vital contribution to prevention, rehabilitation, health promotion, independence, and quality of life.
💙 Let us move more. Live healthier. Prevent disease.
Happy World Physiotherapy Day 2026!
