Chapter 16: “Higher Education as People-to-People Diplomacy: The Development of Thai Studies Education in Vietnam and Vietnamese Studies Education in Thailand” ซึ่งตีพิมพ์ในหนังสือ Five Decades of Thailand–Vietnam Diplomatic Relations: History, Society, Culture, and Cooperation, 1976–2026

📚 Recommended Reading | Faculty Publication from the Bachelor of Political Science Program, Faculty of Political Science, Burapha University
The Bachelor of Political Science Program is pleased to highlight a publication by one of its faculty members, Dr. Jirayoot Seemung, Lecturer in International Relations, Faculty of Political Science, Burapha University, co-authored with Dr. Jidapa Buayairugsa. Their work appears as Chapter 16, “Higher Education as People-to-People Diplomacy: The Development of Thai Studies Education in Vietnam and Vietnamese Studies Education in Thailand,” in Five Decades of Thailand–Vietnam Diplomatic Relations: History, Society, Culture, and Cooperation, 1976–2026.
The volume is a collection of academic articles published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam (1976–2026), bringing together perspectives on relations between the two countries through the dimensions of history, society, culture, and cooperation.
The chapter invites readers to look beyond government-to-government relations and formal diplomacy by highlighting the role of education and higher education institutions as a form of people-to-people diplomacy. It examines the development of Thai Studies education in Vietnam and Vietnamese Studies education in Thailand.
Universities, classrooms, language learning, student exchanges, and academic networks are therefore not merely spaces for the production and transmission of knowledge. They are also spaces where people from the two societies come to know one another, build mutual understanding, and develop relationships—contributing significantly to the long-term foundations of Thailand–Vietnam relations.
Fifty years of diplomatic relations may be counted in years,
but relations between people grow through the stories they build together.
📖 We invite students, scholars, and anyone interested in Thailand–Vietnam relations, people-to-people diplomacy, higher education, and Area Studies to read and explore another dimension of the relationship between the two countries through this volume.
