Research Across Borders: UMS Delegation Visited AU for Strategic Collaboration
A delegation from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta in Indonesia visited the Institute for Research and Academic Services (IRAS) at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, for an international benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening research excellence, academic cooperation, and long-term institutional partnership.

The visit reflects a growing spirit of regional collaboration between higher education institutions in Thailand and Indonesia. The delegation represented the Directorate of Research, Community Service, Publication, and Intellectual Property Center (DRPPS) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), one of Indonesia’s respected private Islamic universities with a strong commitment to research, community engagement, and international academic development. The delegation was led by Prof. Ir. Supriyono, Ph.D., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Institutional Reputation, Impact, Partnership, and Internationalization.

The visit was formally requested by Prof. Harjito, M.T., Ph.D., IPM., Director of DRPPS at UMS, who expressed the university’s intention to learn from IRAS’s institutional practices in advancing research governance, strengthening scholarly capacity, and supporting research initiatives aligned with global academic standards.

Benchmarking With Purpose
The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange insights on research administration, academic services, publication development, intellectual property support, and capacity-building for researchers. UMS identified IRAS as a key institutional pillar in supporting research excellence at AU and noted that IRAS’s experience may offer valuable guidance for enhancing research governance within UMS.

Beyond benchmarking, the visit opened discussion on future areas of collaboration, including joint research initiatives, researcher development, academic networking, and other long-term projects that could contribute to the internationalization and research impact of both universities.

Building Bridges Across ASEAN
The visit also reflected the broader role of universities in the ASEAN region as engines of knowledge exchange, innovation, and social development. By bringing together research leaders from Indonesia and Thailand, the meeting will support a shared commitment to academic excellence and practical cooperation across borders.

For AU, the visit represents another meaningful step in strengthening international partnerships rooted in mutual respect, institutional learning, and shared academic purpose. Through IRAS, the university continues to support research, academic services, and scholarly engagement that connect AU with regional and global partners.

A Foundation for Future Cooperation
The UMS delegation’s visit to IRAS serves as a foundation for deeper dialogue between the two institutions. Discussions focused not only on current research practices but also on possible frameworks for sustainable collaboration in the years ahead.

As higher education institutions across ASEAN continue to respond to global challenges through research, innovation, and community service, partnerships such as this one demonstrate how universities can work together to expand knowledge, strengthen capacity, and create meaningful impact beyond national borders.

Transforming Teaching and Research Into Academic Publications at AU

IRAS hosted a practical seminar on turning teaching into publishable research.

Assumption University of Thailand (AU), through the Institute for Research and Academic Services (IRAS), organized a research training seminar titled “Transforming Teaching and Research into Academic Publications” on March 19, 2026, at Salle d’ Expo, Hua Mak Campus.

Designed for faculty members and researchers, the seminar aimed to support participants in transforming teaching experiences and research interests into high-quality academic outputs. The session covered key areas including developing research ideas from classroom practice, writing effective research proposals, and preparing manuscripts for international publication.

In addition, the seminar addressed practical strategies for structuring research projects, enhancing academic writing skills, selecting appropriate journals, and positioning manuscripts to meet international publication standards and reach a wider scholarly audience.

The seminar was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Phoocharoensil, Director of the Language Institute, Thammasat University, whose expertise contributes significantly to English language education, assessment, and research-based academic development.

Thai Gen Z is not a hopeless generation — they are a generation that is watching politics closely and seriously. They want leaders who deliver on their promises, genuinely listen to the people, and uphold transparency. They expect progress driven by economic reform, educational development, and justice.

If politicians continue playing politics the old way — failing to demonstrate sincerity and transparency — this generation is ready to say “no.” This is not just another poll result; it is a warning signal from the future of the country.

The survey, “Gen Z’s Views on the Future of Thai Politics and Expectations for the New Government,” conducted by AU Poll, Assumption University, gathered responses from 1,189 individuals aged 18–26 in Bangkok between 11–15 February 2026, reflecting Thai politics through the unfiltered lens of the new generation.

✨ Gen Z’s New Year 2026 Vibes ✨

Our latest AU Poll reveals how Gen Z in Thailand plans to welcome the New Year 2026.

Most Gen Z prefer celebrating with a special meal with family or loved ones, or simply staying home and relaxing, rather than big parties.

New Year spending remains budget-conscious, with over half planning to spend under 1,000 THB, mainly on food and dining.

When asked to describe the New Year in one word, Gen Z chose “Growth,” “Warmth,” and “Freedom”—reflecting a desire for self-development, meaningful relationships, and a balanced life.

📊 Survey conducted among 1,146 undergraduate students nationwide (December 2025)

Every November, Thailand becomes illuminated by the vibrant colors of “Loy Krathong” the festival of gratitude and forgiveness to rivers and nature. 💧
At the same time, the world also observes “World AIDS Day,”
A global reminder of the importance of sexual health, HIV awareness, and inclusive understanding issues that remain as relevant as ever.
The coincidence of these two occasions creates a meaningful “shared space” between culture and public health, between celebration and awareness, inviting society to reflect on how young people especially Generation Z perceive, interpret, and act upon these values in today’s fast-changing world.
To explore these perspectives, AU Poll, Institute for Research and Academic Services (IRAS), Assumption University of Thailand conducted a public opinion survey titled
“Gen Z Light and Learn”
The study highlights how Gen Z relates to Thai tradition and modern health consciousness, revealing trends, attitudes, and behaviors that reflect the voices of a generation growing up in a digital and value shifting era.
