🌿✨ Teaching Lignin through Science, Creativity, and Communication ✨🌿

I recently completed my lecture in BCT 633 Bioactive Compounds and Nutraceuticals on the topic “Lignin and Biological Activity.”

Based on students’ feedback, the session helped them better understand the biological and biotechnological importance of lignin, although the topic can be complex and challenging. The infographic/poster activity also encouraged students to transform scientific knowledge into visual communication, supporting creativity, active learning, and long-term content recall.

My teaching strategy focused on:

📝 Structured class highlights
🎨 Infographic/poster-based learning
💬 Reflection and science communication

This activity showed that complex scientific concepts can become more accessible when students are encouraged to learn, design, reflect, and communicate.

💻 Today, we had a fruitful Zoom discussion with Chamssane, our PhD student, who is currently living at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), Taiwan, for her short-term research training. 🎓🔬
Our conversation covered many meaningful topics, including:

🧪 Research plan on wastewater treatment
🌱 Scientific skill development
🏙️ Life adaptation in a new environment
🌏 Cultural learning and global exposure
🤝 International friendship and collaboration
💡 Personal growth, independence, and confidence

This training is one of the important research activities supported under the KMUTT–NKUST MoU, helping young researchers gain real-world experience beyond the laboratory. 🚀📚

🧪✨ LigniTech x IBC Biosafety Evaluation Visit

LigniTech sincerely thanks the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supapon Cheevadhanarak, together with Khun Namol Vorapreeda, Khun Thanaporn Usaha, and all committee members, for visiting and evaluating the biosafety practices of our laboratory.

This visit was an important step in strengthening LigniTech’s readiness toward becoming a BSL-2 laboratory, focusing on trained people, appropriate equipment, safe facility design, traceable biological material records, effective SOPs, and responsible biological waste management.

The Lignin Technology and Innovation Laboratory (LigniTech), School of Bioresources and Technology, KMUTT, would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supapon Cheevadhanarak, Chairperson, together with Khun Namol Vorapreeda, Secretary, Khun Thanaporn Usaha, Assistant Secretary, and all committee members, for visiting and evaluating the biosafety practices of our laboratory. 🙏🔬

During the visit, LigniTech introduced our research direction, laboratory management system, and biosafety practices, while also opening the discussion for constructive recommendations to further strengthen our biosafety standards. 🧫📋✅

As LigniTech aims to become a BSL-2 laboratory, our development focuses on three key pillars:
👩‍🔬 People — certified training, biosafety awareness, and responsible laboratory practices
⚙️ Equipment — appropriate tools and equipment required for BSL-2 operations
🏢 Facility Design — safe laboratory layout, controlled working areas, and systematic risk management

LigniTech also maintains traceable records of biological materials, including management, storage, usage, and waste disposal. 📚🧾♻️
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are available in both hard-copy and online formats, including specific SOPs for visitors entering the laboratory. 📝💻🚪

We greatly appreciate the valuable recommendations and support from the IBC Committee, which will help guide LigniTech toward becoming a safe, responsible, and well-prepared BSL-2 laboratory. 🌱🛡️🚀

MDPI Visits LigniTech for Strategic Collaboration 🤝📘

The meeting was joined by Asst. Prof. Dr. Lakha Salsipeth-the Assistant Dean Special Activities, reflecting strong institutional engagement in advancing academic partnerships.

LigniTech proudly congratulates Ms. Fon Thaidarat Boonlerd, our former MSc student and now LigniTech researcher, for winning two outstanding awards at the 2nd International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Future (ETSF-2026), organized by the Chennai Research Foundation on April 26–27, 2026.

Fon presented her research on chicken feather waste management for the poultry industry, highlighting a practical biotechnological pathway to transform waste into value. This work also connects with our ongoing discussion with Tyson Thailand, aiming to move research closer to real-world industrial application.
