Bangkok University Center of Research in Optoelectronics, Communications and Control Systems (BU-CROCCS).

The Bangkok University Center of Research in Optoelectronics, Communications and Control Systems (BU-CROCCS) is a new initiative of the School of Engineering at Bangkok University. The center is founded as a unit to carry out both fundamental and applied research work in diverse areas of photonics, optoelectronic devices, optoelectronics, and communication and control systems. Involving several me

mbers of Bangkok University and external collaborators, the center utilises the concept of shared facility and expertise within the unit and between affiliates. The center is also intended to serve as an academic and technology hub for a regional, and possibly global, network between different research institutions and industrial firms working in the fields of interest. Locally, one of the main goals is to attract Bangkok University’s young faculty members and students to get involved in an international research environment. Such engagement will help enhancing their professional career, and creates additional driving forces for the on-going research work at the university. Towards achieving this goal, the center will provide for technical and academic short courses and workshops. These courses will be public and free of charge for Bangkok University members.

Mr.Nicolas Michael- Arduino Platform with TFT screen portable device towards smart environment application

Mr.Nicolas Michael doing an internship at BU-CROCCS for 5 months started in September 2016. His internship is supported by a scholarship from Erasmus Mundus Leaders project. He is BSc student in Electrical and Engineering from Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus. He works on a project based on Arduino technology. Arduino is a microcontroller and thanks to a LDC screen placed on it and a photoresistor, we use the light to send data. There is an SD card place on the LCD screen which has multiple media files stored in it and they are able to be displayed on the TFT screen. Example: It can be used in a museum, the light above the picture will send information to the arduino through the photo resistor and will show on the LCD screen the name of the picture.

Mr.Alexis Badet - Development of a controling interface for a multispectral camera

Mr.Alexis Badet is an intern at BU-CROCCS since September 2016 for a period of 9 months as part of his international bachelor degree in computer science from University of Burgundy, France. His main project is the development of a controlling interface for a multispectral camera. The system combines a grating system, a motor for the scanning and a monochrome camera for the image acquisition. The project aims to synchronize the different system elements to simplify the acquisition process. The overall aim of the project is to provide a new tool for the quantification of skin parameters. He is working under the supervision of Dr.Romuald Jolivot.

Dr.Waleed Mohammed-Optical Sensors

Dr.Waleed Mohammed is a researcher scholar. He has worked for 7 years at Bangkok University and participated in the creation of BU-CROCCS in 2012. He works for 20 years on optical research and 13 years on optical sensing. Now, his work focuses on developing low cost but yet efficient optical devices that could monitor specific environmental or biomedical aspects. For example, a recent project aims to detect HbA1C (glucose level in blood) for clinic use.

Dr. Romuald Jolivot - Development of a low-cost multispectral camera.

Dr. Romuald Jolivot, researcher at BU-CROCCS since 2014 works mainly on image processing and biomedical applications. His main project is the development of a low-cost multispectral camera. The aim is to develop a camera which provides more spectral information than a color camera. This work focuses on biomedical applications, especially to study skin conditions. The system results aims helping dermatologists to provide improved diagnostic using objective measurements.

The 2nd edition of the Mini-Conference took place the 13th of December 2016. Organised by BU-ITU, this event is the occasion to learn more about the researches perform in the laboratory by the students and interns. The presentations were evaluated by a jury composed of BU staffs and an award was given for the best research presentation.

DigiKup is the capstone project from one of former BUCROCCS' internship students. In this project, they developed digital make-up system that people can try making up their face with various styles and see how it look like.
