On Sunday 22 November 2025, the Master of Laws Program in Business Law (English Program), Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, led by Dr. Phattharaphong Saengkrai, a program director, organized the Seminar for the Excellence Independent Study. The event featured a discussion between Asst. Prof. Dr. Amnart Tangkiriphimarn, serving as advisor, and Christian Offermanns, the award recipient, who shared insights on his independent study experience. Christian is currently pursuing a PhD at Sydney Law School, expanding on the topic of his independent study.

The event aimed to inspire and provide practical guidance to current students in selecting research topics and appropriate advisors. The program seeks to empower students to complete their studies within the timeframe specified by the curriculum while meeting established academic standards and quality requirements.

The seminar also arranged a panel discussion with distinguished faculty members from Thammasat University, including in the afternoon session; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilubol Lertnuwat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jaruprapa Rakpong and Asst. Prof. Dr. Lasse Schuldt. The panelists shared useful insights based on their experience as researcher and supervisor.

The seminar was held at Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok Ploenchit.

To continue this momentum, the Program will organise a two-day research seminar in January.

The Faculty was honored to welcome him with 🔸 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreeya Kaewla-iad, Dean of the Faculty of Law, 🔸 Asst. Prof. Dr. Amnart Tangkiriphimarn, Associate Dean for International Programs and International Affairs, and 🔸 Asst. Prof. Dr. Juthamas Thirawat, Faculty Member.

In his lecture, Professor Jensen discussed the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in everyday life, highlighting its limitations in areas requiring human discretion, emotional judgment, and moral reasoning—aspects that remain inherently human, especially in contexts involving human rights and international law.

He also explored various applications of AI, ranging from Decision Support Systems to Autonomous AI, which have been implemented in several countries for purposes such as crime prediction, judicial decision-making assistance, and the development of intelligent weapon systems. Professor Jensen raised concerns about ethical implications, potential bias, and the risk of undermining the principle of “presumption of innocence.”

In conclusion, Professor Jensen emphasized that although AI possesses capabilities surpassing humans in many respects, certain types of decisions must still rely on human judgment to establish appropriate legal and ethical frameworks for the future of society.

Topics covered
• Establishing and managing a university law clinic
• Lessons learned from the Essex Law Clinic
• The role of law clinics in promoting access to justice
The Essex Law Clinic at the University of Essex has been established and developed for over 15 years. Starting as a small advisory centre, it has grown into a practice-based learning platform where students work with clients under the supervision of academic staff and specialist lawyers. The clinic now offers services across multiple areas—including human rights, family law, housing, and immigration law—with a focus on supporting those who cannot afford legal counsel, thereby expanding access to justice and promoting equity.

Beyond public service, the clinic serves as a space for academic, professional, and ethical training (professional ethics) under the motto “Lead by Example.” Students develop competencies such as client interviewing and careful questioning, legal analysis and research, preparation of case documents and advice letters, the art of empathy, and non-judgemental professional conduct.
The clinic’s work not only assists vulnerable groups affected by economic and social inequality and the challenges of the immigration system, but also equips students with real-world experience and a strong sense of professional responsibility—bridging social justice, teaching, and practice, alongside a commitment to public service.
