AARM is a field of study under the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) which is an international postgraduate institution established in 1959.

AARM was proud to showcase our locally developed tilapia vaccine products at AIT Library Day 2026 today!

Our research goes beyond the laboratory — we are working to develop practical solutions for disease prevention that can help improve fish health, reduce losses, and support more sustainable aquaculture for farmers.

It was great to share our work with the AIT community and demonstrate how research and innovation can make a meaningful impact from Lab to Market.

𝐀𝐀𝐑𝐌 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐃𝐀𝐅𝐒𝐀 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬

The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) successfully conducted a specialized training program on Nile Tilapia Seed Production and Farming from 11–25 July 2026 for five officials from the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), United Arab Emirates. The training was organized in collaboration with United Arab Emirates University (UAEU).

This program is part of a broader capacity-building initiative designed to support the development of a sustainable and competitive aquaculture industry in Abu Dhabi. Through a series of specialized training programs, the initiative aims to strengthen technical expertise, facilitate knowledge transfer, and equip professionals with practical skills to advance aquaculture development in the UAE.

The intensive program combined classroom lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and field visits, covering key aspects of Nile tilapia hatchery management, seed production, nursery and grow-out farming, genetics, fish health, processing, value addition, and marketing. Participants also visited leading commercial hatcheries, research facilities, and aquaculture enterprises in Thailand to gain practical insights into modern tilapia production systems.

The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted the Asia-Africa Aquaculture Partnership Forum on 10 July 2026 at AIT, Thailand. The forum brought together participants from government agencies, development organizations, academic and research institutions, and the private sector across the aquaculture value chain to initiate and strengthen collaboration between Asia and Africa toward sustainable aquaculture growth.

The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Mrs. Hala Youssef Ahmed Ragab, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Thailand as the Guest of Honor.

We sincerely thank all participants for their active engagement and valuable discussions on how we can further support the growth of Africa’s aquaculture sector through improved production, value chain development, innovation, and stronger partnerships.

We look forward to building more partnerships and strengthening South-South cooperation. The A3 Centre is on its way to becoming a platform for open dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration to support the future development of sustainable aquaculture across Asia and Africa.

🐟🌏 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲

The 𝑨𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆: 𝑵𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑻𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒇𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑨𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 is now well underway at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), with 20 farmers and government delegates from Nigeria actively building their knowledge and practical skills.

During the first week, participants attended lectures on fish health management and biosecurity, catfish production systems, and tilapia and catfish markets and trade. They also visited commercial aquaculture facilities to learn about the complete hybrid catfish production chain—from hormone-induced breeding and hatchery operations to grow-out farming, marketing, and fish processing.

The learning journey continues over the next two weeks with intensive hands-on training at the tilapia farm, followed by field visits to tilapia farms and processing facilities. The program will conclude with participant presentations, showcasing the knowledge and practical experience gained throughout this three-week course.

A pioneer in tilapia breeding, his farm is the first in Thailand to earn the prestigious BAP certification from the United States, setting a global standard for Thai aquaculture. Beyond production excellence, Mr. Amorn champions sustainability, community education, and industry development as President of the Thai Tilapia Association. 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐩 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 — Geni Bhargav 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐚𝐦, 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝

Geni Bhargava, a Master's student in the AARM Program at AIT, completed his industry internship at SyAqua Siam Co., Ltd., gaining hands-on experience in shrimp health management, molecular diagnostics, and broodstock production.

His work contributed to shrimp health and disease research on major pathogens including AHPND and EHP, supporting the selection of disease-resistant lines. He also supported high-health broodstock production at a biofloc-based Broodstock Multiplication Centre (BMC), through biosecurity protocols, water quality management, and quality control practices.

From the aquaculture-rich coastal state of Andhra Pradesh, India, to the forefront of shrimp health research in Thailand — Excellent work, Geni! 👏
