We are pleased to share a few moments from the "Introduction to IC Design Using Synopsys" workshop, held on 27–28 August 2026at Chulalongkorn University. 💻

During the two-day workshop, participants had the opportunity to learn about the IC design flow, covering both analog and digital circuit design, together with hands-on practice using related design tools. ⚙️

We sincerely appreciate the time, interest, and active participation of everyone who joined the workshop, as well as the support from the instructors and staff throughout the program. 🙏

🎓 Plan Your SEMI Journey: 131 Credits + More Ways to Explore

Whether you are considering applying to "CU SEMI" or are already studying with us, understanding the curriculum structure can help you see the bigger picture — and plan your academic journey more effectively. 🧭✨

The current "B.Eng. in Semiconductor Engineering (International Program)" consists of "131 credits":

📘 24 credits — General Education
• Foreign Languages: 12 credits
• Other General Education courses (S/U): 12 credits

⚙️ 101 credits — Program Courses
• Basic Mathematics and Science: 30 credits
• Core Courses: 56 credits
• Elective Courses: 15 credits

🌟 6 credits — Free Electives

Together, these courses build a foundation from mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals to specialised knowledge in semiconductor engineering — while giving students room to explore their own academic and professional interests.

🗓️ How should you plan your study?

For prospective students, the curriculum structure gives you an idea of what your four-year journey will look like and how fundamental subjects gradually lead into semiconductor-focused courses.

For current SEMI students, it is useful to plan "semester by semester":
✅ Complete foundation and prerequisite courses at the appropriate stage
✅ Balance Core Courses with General Education courses
✅ Think ahead about which SEMI Elective Courses match your interests and career goals
✅ Use Free Electives strategically to broaden your knowledge
✅ Check course prerequisites, semester availability and timetable conflicts before registration
✅ Discuss your longer-term study plan with your academic advisor, especially if you are considering exchange, a Minor, or other academic opportunities

🌱 Optional Minor — Explore Beyond Your Major

In addition to the "131-credit SEMI curriculum", the Faculty of Engineering encourages students to broaden their learning through the "Major–Minor framework".

Students may choose an "optional Minor in another field of interest", subject to the requirements and availability of each Minor program.

➕ Selected Minor: at least 15 additional credits

Importantly, the Minor is an "additional optional pathway" and is "not included in the 131 credits shown above".

If you are interested in pursuing a Minor, it is a good idea to start planning early. Mapping Minor courses alongside your SEMI study plan can help distribute your workload across semesters and reduce timetable or prerequisite conflicts later in the program. 🚀

On 18–19 August 2026, the "Semiconductor Engineering Program (SEMI)", Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University participated in the "28th Higher Education Fair at Prince of Songkla University". 🏫💡

The event provided a great opportunity to meet prospective students, teachers, and parents, and to share information about our "Semiconductor Engineering Program", including the curriculum, learning opportunities, admissions, and future career pathways in the semiconductor industry. 🔬⚡💻

We were delighted to see so many students interested in semiconductor technology and engineering, and we hope the information shared at our booth will help them explore their interests and make informed decisions about their future studies. 🌱🚀

💡 Semiconductor 101: What Is a Semiconductor?

Ever wondered what makes your smartphone, computer, game console, or even an electric vehicle possible?

At the heart of modern electronics is a special type of material called a "semiconductor".

Unlike conductors, which allow electric current to flow easily, or insulators, which strongly resist current, a semiconductor has a unique advantage: "its electrical conductivity can be controlled."⚡

Silicon is one of the most widely used semiconductor materials. By carefully controlling how electricity flows through it, engineers can create important electronic devices such as "diodes and transistors" — the tiny building blocks inside modern electronic circuits.

And that ability to control electricity is what makes semiconductors so powerful.

💻✨ "Learning, designing, and exploring the world of IC design!"

A great atmosphere from the "Introduction to IC Design Using Synopsys" training, held on "13–14 August 2026". Participants gained both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in the IC design flow, from digital design and logic synthesis to physical implementation and analog IC design. 🧠🔧

It was wonderful to see everyone actively learning, practicing, exchanging ideas, and developing practical skills together throughout the workshop. 🙌🎓
