ในการบรรยายสาธารณะนี้ Prof. Ellis เราจะมาให้คำตอบในมุมมองของนักฟิสิกส์ที่มีต่อภาพวาด "Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?" ของศิลปินชาวฝรั่งเศส ปอล โกแกง (Paul Gauguin) วิทยาศาสตร์สมัยใหม่จะสามารถบอกอะไรกับเราบ้าง เมื่อพบกับคำถามที่นักปราชญ์หลายยุค หลายสมัยต่างพยายามค้นหาคำตอบ

เกี่ยวกับผู้บรรยาย
Prof. John Ellis เป็นนักฟิสิกส์ทฤษฎีชาวอังกฤษ-สวิส สำเร็จการปริญญาเอกทางด้านฟิสิกส์อนุภาค เชิงทฤษฎีจากมหาวิทยาลัยเคมบริดจ์ในปีค.ศ. 1971 งานวิจัยของ Prof. John Ellis มีหลากหลายหัวข้อทางด้านฟิสิกส์อนุภาคพลังงานสูงเชิงทฤษฎี เขาได้เป็นรองหัวหน้ากลุ่มทฤษฎีของเซิร์นสองสมัย และเป็นหัวหน้า กลุ่มทฤษฎีในปีค.ศ. 1988-1994 เป็นคณะกรรมการคัดเลือกการทดลองสำหรับเครื่องเร่งอนุภาค Large Electron-Position Collider (LEP) และ Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

สวทช. ขอเชิญผู้ที่สนใจร่วมรับฟัง การบรรยายพิเศษโดย Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell (โจเซลีน เบลล์ เบอร์เนล) นักฟิสิกส์ดาราศาสตร์หญิงชาวไอริชผู้ค้นพบดาวพัลซาร์ (Pulsars) เมื่อปีค.ศ. 1967 ในขณะที่ยังเป็นนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยเคมบริดจ์ ซึ่งเป็นการค้นพบครั้งยิ่งใหญ่ เพราะคลื่นวิทยุที่ดาวพัลซาร์ส่งออกมานั้น เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการทดลองทางฟิสิกส์ดาราศาสตร์เป็นอย่างยิ่ง การค้นพบในครั้งนั้น ทำให้โจเซลีนได้รับรางวัล Special Breakthrough Prize ในสาขา Fundamental Physics นอกจากนี้ ในงานยังมีการเสวนาพิเศษ นำทีมโดยโจเซลีน และกลุ่มนักวิทยาศาสตร์ชั้นนำของประเทศไทย ในหัวข้อ Women in Science

โดยงานจะจัดขึ้นที่ห้อง Sky Ballroom ชั้น 6 โรงแรม Compass Skyview สุขุมวิท 24 กรุงเทพฯ ในวันที่ 30 มกราคม 2563 เวลา 15:00 - 18:30 น.
