On 23 April 2026, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the THE Asia University Rankings 2026. Mae Fah Luang University was placed in the 401–500 band among 929 ranked universities from 36 countries and territories across Asia. The University is ranked joint 35th in ASEAN and joint 5th in Thailand out of 31 participating Thai universities.

The ranking is based on five performance indicators: Teaching (24.5%), Research Environment (28%), Research Quality (30%), Industry (10%), and International Outlook (7.5%).

Mae Fah Luang University continues to be ranked No. 1 in Thailand for International Outlook, with its score increasing from 58.2 to 64.1 this year.

Performance by indicator:
- Teaching: 19.4
- Research Environment: 16.8
- Research Quality: 55.5
- Industry: 36.8
- International Outlook: 64.1 (Ranked No. 1 in Thailand for seven consecutive years)

These results reflect the University’s ongoing commitment to its vision, “The University for Well-being and Sustainable Future,” particularly in fostering an international academic environment that supports global learning and research collaboration.

เมื่อวันที่ 23 เมษายน 2569 สำนักจัดอันดับ Times Higher Education (THE) ได้ประกาศผลการจัดอันดับ THE Asia University Rankings 2026 โดยมหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวงได้รับการจัดอันดับในช่วงที่ 401-500 จาก 929 มหาวิทยาลัยในเอเชียที่ได้รับการจัดอันดับ เป็นอันดับที่ 35 ร่วมของอาเซียน และเป็นอันดับที่ 5 ร่วมของไทย จากทั้งหมด 31 มหาวิทยาลัยไทยที่ส่งข้อมูล

🎉Mae Fah Luang University Affirms Its Leading Position in International Outlook
in THE Asia University Rankings 2026
The results of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026 underscore Mae Fah Luang University’s (MFU) continued prominence on the regional stage. For the seventh consecutive year, MFU has been recognized as Thailand’s No. 1 university for International Outlook, achieving an increased score of 64.1.

In the latest assessment released on April 23, 2026, MFU is placed within the 401–500 band among 929 institutions across Asia. Locally, the University is positioned at joint 5th in Thailand and joint 35th in ASEAN, reflecting a consistent trajectory of quality and growth.

On 23 April 2026, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), led by the Global Relations Division, hosted a farewell party for 15 exchange students from eight partner institutions across Indonesia, the Philippines, France, Germany, and Austria, marking the completion of the second semester of Academic Year 2025.

This initiative aligns with the concept of "Internationalisation at Home," which aims to foster an international atmosphere within the university, allowing students to gain global perspectives without the need to travel abroad.

Held at the Food Maker Space in I-Park (M-Square), the event brought together international students, faculty, staff, and Thai students who shared classes with them throughout the semester to celebrate a period of shared learning and cross-cultural exchange. The program featured an "Experience Sharing Session," where exchange students reflected on their experiences of living and studying at MFU. This was followed by a "Feedback Session" to gather insights and suggestions for the future development of exchange programmes. The event also included a certificate presentation ceremony, the writing of souvenir postcards, and a networking lunch.

This event reflects MFU’s ongoing commitment to cultivating an international atmosphere by encouraging its various schools to welcome international students through exchange programmes. This serves as a vital mechanism for enhancing the global citizenship skills of Thai students while simultaneously building academic cooperation networks with leading international institutions.

As a public autonomous university with a distinct international identity located in Chiang Rai, Mae Fah Luang University places a strong emphasis on developing partnerships with countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion and beyond. Facilitating student exchange programmes—both hosting inbound international students and sending MFU students abroad—is one of the university's core missions. This dedication ensures that graduates are well-prepared with the global competencies required to meet the demands of the international labour market.

On 9 April 2026, H.E. Mrs. Ilse Lilián Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Thailand, paid a courtesy visit to Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) executives, led by Asst. Prof. Dr.Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President.

The purpose of this visit was to discuss potential cooperation between MFU and higher education institutions in Mexico.

Recognising that both Thailand and Mexico are agriculturally proficient nations facing comparable climate change challenges, the Ambassador of Mexico emphasised the importance of forging agricultural collaborations—particularly concerning food security—with Mae Fah Luang University. The Ambassador is highly committed to driving this initiative to success through international academic conferences, mutual experience sharing, and robust academic partnerships with Mexican universities.

The discussion also highlighted potential collaborations in organising online training programmes focused on Gender Equality, as well as empowering local weavers and preserving the rich cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups. A key strategy involves bridging Chiang Rai’s vibrant designer community with prominent cultural hubs in Mexico. This includes linking with Querétaro and Oaxaca, which are celebrated for their textile conservation efforts, as well as San Miguel de Allende, renowned for its prestigious galleries and fine arts. This proposed textile and design collaboration is envisioned as a pilot project capable of generating direct benefits to uplift local communities in Chiang Rai.

Furthermore, both parties explored the possibility of initiating visiting scholar programmes and best practice sharing sessions aimed at addressing regional issues, including transboundary haze pollution, climate change mitigation, and sustainable water management within Chiang Rai province.

This visit has not only strengthened ties between MFU and Mexico but also paved the way for future cooperation in education and research, aligning with the university’s mission to continuously strengthening international relations to drive a sustainable future and well-being.
