Mr. S. M. Rezaul Karim, a PhD candidate at the Asian Institute of Technology in the Agribusiness Management program, is currently conducting fieldwork for his dissertation in the districts of Natore and Joypurhat, which are among the major sugarcane-producing regions in northwest Bangladesh.

The study focuses on the adoption of Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute-recommended Improved Sugarcane Production (ISP) practices and their effects on farmers’ yield and profitability. These practices aim to enhance the efficiency of input use, improve productivity, and ultimately increase farm income.

The research seeks to assess the extent of adoption, analyze its impact on economic outcomes, and identify the key factors influencing farmers’ adoption decisions. It also explores the effectiveness of information dissemination mechanisms and the constraints faced by farmers at the field level.

To achieve these objectives, the study employs a mixed-method approach, including farmer surveys, interviews, and field observations, enabling the analysis of the relationship between farm-level practices and economic performance.

By integrating technological and economic perspectives, the study aims to generate empirical evidence to support farmers, policymakers, and agricultural research and extension institutions in promoting sustainable and profitable sugarcane production systems in northwest Bangladesh and beyond. The research is conducted under the academic supervision of Dr. Muhammad Yaseen.
