A beautiful morning in the Syracuse, New York, Amtrak station and bus terminal. Thanks to friend "Thomas Fowler" for bringing me up.

This time I am asking for DONATIONS ONLY, as I have already "borrowed" more than I should for my budget. PLEASE consider giving, as I need it not only for today, but also to complete the trip(s) ahead. Consider your gift a contribution to "ZEHNER MINISTRIES," a name that was suggested to me nearly forty (40) years ago by a young American Christian I met in Thailand.

ZEHNER MINISTRIES (me) has just given his last US$5 (plus remaining change) to a 30-year-old African-American man who needs US$65 for a one-way train ticket to Manhattan and the Bronx to "pick up my father's things" (father died a few months ago) and reconnect with his father's side of the family. Full round trip is $180-$200. Can you help him? Through me? His name is Quintin. Please pray for him today.

By way of explanation, the reason I do not have my US$3,000 yet is because, to save money, and thus be good stewards (careful users) of that money, we used a third party international funds transfer website called DeeMoney. It is apparently VERY slow on weekends. So no money, and the US$3,000 was not going to be enough for everything I need to do anyway. So please prayerfully consider a donation or two to me in the form of ZEHNER MINISTRIES ("ministries" meaning "whatever I feel led to do, wherever I happen to be.)

The WJAS editor would also like to see an article comparing Shafii Muslim practices in southern Thailand with those in Northeast Yemen (Hadhramaut Valley centered on
Tarim; alternatively Sanaa, Taiz, etc), comparing issues, and comparing issues and practices in northeast Yemen (and possibly Sana'a) with parts of Malaysia, with parts of Thailand's Upper South (see my article on that subregion on Google Scholar), and with parts of Java or Sumatra. I think that could be a fun set of articles, and would like WJAS to be the place for them to appear :-)

Hello. I wish to emphasize that the Walailak Journal of Asian Studies wishes to cover ALL aspects of Asian Studies, including (1) all countries, regions, and subregions of Asia (including the Middle East east of the Nile River); (2) also both regional/ comparative/ social-theoretical articles and fine-grained local descriptive articles (the latter often turn out to be more theoritically useful than initially expected); (3) a wide range of fields and disciplines and subject areas, including cultural performance arts, social theories relevant to Asia, languages and language acquisition, local styles of cropping (what crops to grow where and why), why massive government- encouraged overplanting in rubber trees ruined southern Thai small-holder farmers back in 2013 or so, and also maybe explore what the smallholder farmers are doing to recover, and which strategies are doing better than others?

Walailak Journal of Asian Studies is thinking of reviving. Send both "short pieces" (up to 1,000 words) and longer pieces (normally 6,000-8,000 words and sometimes up to 10,000 words) to the editor, [email protected]

Thinking of reviving Walailak Journal of Asian Studies, which I own and edit. Please send prospective submissions to me at: [email protected]

Hello, readers and prospective authors, the WJAS online (free) and print (cheap) scholarly journal is currently on hiatus. The proprietor/editor is currently exploring whether to attempt resuming publication. If the journal does reopen, it will probably have a different institutional affiliation and possibly even a different name. However, if that happens, the publisher plans to announce details here, while also providing a link to the submissions portal and the "recent and forthcoming issues" portal. So please keep keep following this site, and please keep "liking" our page.
