Moda ve Tekstil Tasarımı Bölümü kurulduğu 2001 yılından bu yana sürekli olarak kendini yenileyip moda/tekstil alanında değişen çevresel koşulları ve toplumsal beğenileri de yakından takip ederek uluslararası ölçekte, son derece kapsamlı bir eğitim programı sunar. Bu program çerçevesinde ilk iki yıl ortak eğitim alan öğrenciler üçüncü yıldan itibaren Moda ve Tekstil Tasarımı ile Moda İşletmeciliği

alanlarında uzmanlaşma şansına sahip olurlar. Ayrıca alanları ile ilgili çok sayıda seçmeli dersin yanı sıra diğer fakültelerden de seçmeli ders alma şansına sahiptirler. Öğrenciler, her hafta düzenlenen seminerlerle alanında başarılı kişiler ile tanışma fırsatı yakalarlarken yer alınan ulusal ve uluslararası fuar organizasyonları, düzenli olarak açılan sergilerle ve yapılan teknik gezilerle daha eğitim dönemindeyken kendilerini sektörün içinde hissetmeye başlarlar. Mezun olduklarında fikirlerini yorumlayarak görselleştirebilen bireyler olarak fark yaratırlar.

IDEAL Project “From Academia to Entrepreneurship: Ideas, Support and Impact Talks and Certificate Programme” Begins!

The second edition of the seminar series, first organized last semester, will be held this term under the title “From Academia to Entrepreneurship: Ideas, Support and Impact Talks.”

The talks are organized within the scope of the IDEAL – Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship and Academic Learning for Creative Industries project, funded by the EIT HEI.

The IDEAL project aims to enhance entrepreneurship and innovation capacity in higher education institutions.

Developed as part of FA 202 Fashion Design Studio: Collection I course, The project entitled “Upcycled Memories” exploring upcycling as a sustainable design strategy is transforming old garments into new, experimental pieces instead of discarding them. This approach not only reduces waste but also challenges the cycle of constant consumption.
Clothing holds personal meaning, often connected to memories, emotions, and important life moments. Even when garments become worn or damaged, their sentimental value remains. This project embraces those memories, reworking garments like shirts and other items into new designs that blend storytelling with creativity.
By combining handmade textile techniques with conscious design, “Upcycled Memories” turns the past into something new creating wearable pieces that are both meaningful and sustainable.

FA 202 Moda Tasarım Stüdyosu: Koleksiyon I dersi kapsamında geliştirilen “Upcycled Memories” projesi, üretim esnasında karşılaşılan etik sorunları sürdürülebilir bir tasarım yaklaşımı olan ileri dönüşüm (upcycling) ile çözümlemeyi hedefler. Eski ve istenmeyen giysileri atmak yerine onları yeni ve deneysel parçalara dönüştürmeyi amaçlar. Bu yaklaşım, hem atığı azaltır hem de sürekli tüketim döngüsünü sorgular.
Giysiler yalnızca birer nesne değil; anılar, duygular ve yaşamın değerleriyle bağlantılıdır. Yıpransalar bile taşıdıkları manevi değer devam eder. Bu proje, bu anılardan ilham alarak gömlek gibi parçaları yeniden tasarlayıp hikâye ve yaratıcılığı bir araya getirmeyi hedefler.
El yapımı tekstil teknikleri ve bilinçli tasarım anlayışıyla “Upcycled Memories”, geçmişi geleceğe taşıyan, anlamlı sürdürülebilir ve giyilebilir tasarımlar ortaya koyar.

During the semester, IDEAL – Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship and Academic Learning for Creative Industries project, implemented in partnership with İzmir University of Economics, delivered a comprehensive program of seminars, training sessions, and educational activities aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship and innovation capacity within the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). As a project funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology Higher Education Initiative (EIT-HEI) and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Arzu Vuruşkan, IDEAL supports higher education institutions in integrating innovation-driven practices into education, research, and institutional frameworks. The program addressed key themes including innovative teaching and learning approaches, digital and AI-supported design tools, sustainability and circular design strategies, entrepreneurship education, and future-oriented technologies. Delivered through lectures, workshops, mentoring sessions, studio-based courses, and hands-on training formats, the project contributed to capacity building, skills development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, fostering systemic impact across educational and innovation ecosystems.

New Course Announcement: FFD 305 - Design and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Futures! 🚀

We are excited to launch FFD 305 - Design and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Futures, developed within the framework of the EU-funded (EIT-HEI) IDEAL project led by Izmir University of Economics in collaboration with partners from the UK, Germany, Spain, and Italy. This interdisciplinary course focuses on digital transformation, AI-driven design, and circular economy strategies, offering students a unique pathway to the global entrepreneurial ecosystem.
