The Dr. Erol Üçer Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) at Istanbul Technical University is proud to present the fourth edition of Sonified: A Symposium of Sonic Practices, which will be held on May 8–9, 2026, at Arter in Dolapdere.

The two-day symposium will feature performances, installations and presentations.

With the support of Bilgi University, join us for a lecture by Dr. Norman Ludwin in which he will be covering ten harmonic approaches with detailed score examples by Dr.Ludwin and composers J. Adams, D. Elfman, J. Goldsmith, T. Newman, H. Shore, F. Poulenc, M. Richter, L. Rosenman, E. Satie, and H. Zimmer. Join us for a seminar by Dr. Erol Köymen. Dr. Köymen’s talk is drawn from his current book project, Polyphonic Pieities: Enlightenment Governmentality, Listening, and the Global Bourgeoisie in Modern Turkey. In the book, he examines how attending to polyphony as concept and as embodied in Western art music has been a modality for negotiating secular modernity in Turkey. Additional publications take up listening as a site at which to examine the experience of global urban inter-imperiality, the urban politics of azan amplification in Turkey and Germany, atmospheres of Europe in contemporary Istanbul, and aesthetics of performance in Turkish-German diaspora, and have appeared or are forthcoming in Ethnomusicology, The Journal of Middle East Studies, Current Musicology, and World of Music.

Sicilya Müzik Festivali’nin kurucusu ve sanat yönetmeni piyanist Giacomo Scinardo, eş-kurucu ve piyanist Yin Zheng, ve Milano Devlet Konservatuvarı öğretim üyelerinden soprano Maria Cristina Curti, 6 Mart 2026 tarihinde MİAM’da ustalık sınıfları gerçekleştireceklerdir. Ustalık sınıfına seçilmek için kısa bir video kayıt göndermek gereklidir. Kayıt içeriğinde tür/dönem/süre kısıtlaması yoktur. Adayın kendisini en iyi ifade ettiğini düşündüğü tek bir eser, kayıt içeriği için yeterlidir.

Ustalık sınıfına başvuru ve katılım ücretsizdir.

Giacomo Scinardo, pianist, founder and artistic director of the Sicily Music Festival; Yin Zheng, pianist and co-founder of the festival, and Maria Cristina Curti, soprano and voice faculty from Conservatorio di Milano will hold masterclasses at MIAM on March 6, 2026. A short video recording of one piece is required in order to apply for the masterclasses. There is no restriction on genre/ period/duration.

‼️Deadline for sending your application is February 28, 2026‼️

Participation in the masterclass is free of charge.
