Even the left and right hearts can be switched ... The failing single-ventricle put to new use providing pulsatile pulmonary support for pediatric heart disease patients. Our out-of-the-box approach is accepted for publication in Annals of Biomedical Engineering journal! Excellent team of authors and ERC funding. Very early version of this study can be found here:

Two research positions are immediately available in our laboratory at Koc University/Istanbul. We are looking to hire one post-doctoral fellow and possibly one PhD student focusing one or more of these general topics:

(i) Biological microsystems, microfluidics, biosensors and microscopic particle velocimetry (PIV). Including alternative advanced biological microscopy techniques to study biofluids and bioinspired engineering problems. The ideal candidate either should be highly motivated or have experience in microfabrication and cleanroom work.
(ii) Advanced computational fluid and/or solid mechanics modeling of cardiovascular, biomedical, or biological systems.
(iii) Cardiovascular tissue engineering and artificial heart valve biomechanics.
(iv) Cardiovascular device design, macroscopic PIV and blood cell damage modeling/experiments/assessment
(v) Small animal experiments
(vi) Cardiovascular device entrepreneurship and commercialization

Competitive salary and support will be provided through our new ERC-PoC and Tubitak Leading Researcher (2247A) awards. Interested candidates should e-mail their CV’s, explaining their motivation and expertise, provide their previous successfully completed sample project reports or portfolio, published manuscripts and contact information of three references to Prof. Dr. Kerem Pekkan ([email protected]).
