Call for Papers
14th Living Space and Social Life: Theory and Practice
The Department cordially invites scholars, researchers, practitioners, and students to participate in the 14th Living Space and Social Life International Conference, which will be held at Chaoyang University of Technology, Taichung, Taiwan, from June 15 to June 18, 2026.
Conference Theme
Indigenous Knowledge, Local Initiatives, and Global Alternatives
In response to global challenges such as rapid urbanization, climate change, and widening social inequalities, the concept of “living space” is undergoing significant transformation. This conference aims to explore living space as a relational field where social life, cultural memory, ecological knowledge, and community practices intersect.
The conference emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue and encourages innovative perspectives that integrate local knowledge systems, community-based practices, and sustainable development approaches.
Topics of Interest
Submissions are welcome in (but not limited to) the following areas:
Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Spatial Justice
Local Initiatives and Social Innovation
Living Heritage and Intergenerational Space
Ecological Living and Sustainable Futures
Digital Spaces and Hybrid Social Life

We invite contributions in multiple formats, including:
Individual paper proposals
Thematic panels and roundtables
Workshops and participatory sessions
Creative and community-engaged presentations
Intergenerational contributions (including youth co-presentations)

Special Feature
Participants will have the opportunity to join an immersive field visit to an Indigenous community in Taichung, gaining first-hand insights into community-based long-term care models, co-living practices, and culturally grounded sustainability initiatives.
