[Important Notice] Keep Hantavirus Out! Implement the “Three No’s for Rodent Prevention” Measures

[Important Notice] Keep Hantavirus Out! Implement the “Three No’s for Rodent Prevention” Measures
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on May 3, 2026, that there have been a cumulative total of 2 confirmed domestic cases of Hantavirus Syndrome this year. Hantavirus Syndrome is a zoonotic infectious disease, and its natural hosts are primarily rodents such as rats and mice. Humans may become infected by inhaling or coming into contact with dust or objects contaminated by the excretions or secretions (such as f***s, urine, or saliva) of rodents carrying hantavirus, or through bites from infected rodents.
Please implement the “Three No’s for Rodent Prevention” measures as follows:
1. Do not provide food: Properly dispose of kitchen waste and store animal feed appropriately.
2. Do not provide shelter: Maintain environmental cleanliness at all times. Areas such as fire lanes, drainage facilities (sewers and drain covers), piles of miscellaneous items, and walls are common hotspots for rodent activity.
3. Do not allow entry: Stay alert to possible routes through which rodents may enter the environment.
4. If rodent droppings are found, first wear a mask and rubber gloves and open doors and windows for ventilation. Dilute household bleach at a ratio of 1:9 (1 part bleach to 9 parts water), then spray the potentially contaminated area. Allow the disinfectant to work for 5 minutes before cleaning.
5. Specific venues such as restaurants and food service businesses should implement proper rodent prevention and control measures, including enhanced trapping and extermination operations.
6. For more information, please visit the Taiwan CDC website (https://www.cdc.gov.tw), the Taipei City Department of Health website (https://health.gov.taipei/Default.aspx), or call the toll-free epidemic prevention hotline at 1922 (or 0800-001922).
7. If you experience any abnormal physical symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately and notify the school Health Center (reporting hotline: 02-77493111) or the designated advisor’s office (reporting hotline: 02-77493123).
