By the kind invitation of Prof. Chang, Chair of the Dept. of Agricultural Economics of NTU, Prof. Guanming Shi, Chair of the Dept. of Agriculture and Applied Economics of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) visited the Dept. of Agricultural Economics of NTU on December 16th under the purpose of the delivery of a speech in the Seminar as well as introducing their 3+1 Visiting International Student Program（VISP）, wishing to make an official cooperation with the Dept. of Agricultural Economics of NTU.

Founded in 1848, the The University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW–Madison) was the first public university established in Wisconsin and remains the oldest and largest public university in the state. UW-Madison is classified as an R1 University in the United Stated and is regarded as a “Public Ivy”. Many NTU alumni pursued their academic career there including two of the current faculty in our Dept. of Agricultural Economics: Prof. Yu-Hui Chen and Associate Prof. Fung-Mey Huang.

On December 16th Prof. Guanming Shi, the current Chair of the Dept. of Agriculture and Applied Economics of UW-Madison visited the Dept. of Agricultural Economics and was warmly welcomed by the Chair, Prof. Hung-Hao Chang and the rest of the Faculty. Prof. Shi then had a Speech on the Seminar under the title “Two tigers in one Mountain: Are there Implicit Collusions in the U.S. Corn Seed Market?”. More importantly, she introduced her 3+1（Visiting International Student Program, VISP）, which allows NTU junior （3rd year） student, under the department’s recommendation, to study at UW-Madison for their 4th year. After their completion of undergraduate program students will acquire NTU undergraduate degree as well as promising opportunity of studying the master degree at UW-Madison, to the undergraduate students as well as the faculty. This is a good program for our local students who wish to pursue postgraduate or Ph.D degree in the United States.

The faculty and students on the Dept. of Agricultural Economics are all highly interested in her proposal, an MoU for VISP is quickly under discussion and both sides are looking forward to it. It was a fruitful presentation for both the speech and VISP and we can expect their cooperation will be successfully conducted in a short time.
