Behind the Pictures​
​
In this session, illustration works by Italian, and Taiwanese artists serve as examples to describe how illustrators, in an era of environmental protection and green fashion, respond to and contribute to the Earth through new media that haven’t shown before. The artists create a harmonious trio of humankind, nature, and the land, which will further develop in the future.​

​
本區展出「2020桃園國際插畫大獎」的24件精彩獲獎作品。不僅可見活躍於第一線的著名插畫家作品，還有許多年輕新秀與學生的初啼之作。他們向世人分享在面對不可預測之將來的心情狀態與應對方式，提供給觀者抒發情緒的宣洩管道，去想像和影響可期待的未來。​

Future? Future!​
​
This session showcases 24 excellent winning artworks in the 2020 Taoyuan International Illustration Competition. We can see not only works of renowned illustrators but also works of emerging artists and young students. These artists share their emotional states and coping strategies with the audiences when facing an unpredictable future, providing an outlet for the viewers to express their emotions and to imagine and influence the future they expect.​

展區 2「我畫故我在」

插畫家以畫筆描繪社會的各種現象，記錄著人們當時的價值觀和生活畫面。關於悲傷、寂寞、孤單，這些情緒藉由作品被記錄下來，並希冀透過插畫創作，帶來正向的情緒影響力、創造嶄新社會價值，並展出插畫家們對於2020年疫情現象的全新感知創作。

I draw therefore I am

Illustrators depict various phenomena in society, recording people’s values and life scenarios at a time. Emotions such as sadness, loneliness, and isolation are described in their artworks.

The exhibition aims to bring positive emotional effects through illustration and create band new social values. Besides, the exhibition will showcase the illustrators’ new works on the theme of the epidemic in 2020.

佳作⭐平安距離 Social Distancing
​
以中央⼭脈為發想主題，創作以⼭為出發點的插畫作品。⼭中間所流淌的川河，讓⼭的彼此間保有安全的距離。河川映照著滿天星空，帶著滿滿的希望送給這個世界的我們。

This work is based on the theme of the Central Mountain Range. The rivers are flowing through the middle of the mountain, keeping a safe distance between peaks. The rivers reflect the starry sky and send wishes to us.

​
佳作⭐羨慕–戴著口罩的我只想和鳥一樣自在唱歌。
Envy: I Just Want to Sing Like a Bird under My Mask

​
2020年初因新冠肺炎疫情的緣故，授課畫室裡的孩子們不得不勤勞消毒，並戴上口罩上課，儘管封住了小嘴，但仍封不了「想說」、「想唱」的慾望。畫室外有個小花園，這時傳來不知名的鳥叫聲，孩子們興奮的不約而同往外望去，而我看到的盡是孩子們的「羨慕」與「期待」。著手畫下這張圖，祈願未來災厄遠離，重拾往日歡笑。

In early 2020, due to the Covid-19, students in the painting studio have to disinfect and wear masks in class. Although their mouths are covered, it still cannot stop their desire to speak and sing. There is a garden outside the studio. One day, there comes an unknown bird chirping. The children all look at the garden with excitement, and what I see is the children’s “envy” and “expectation.” I then draw this picture, wishing that we will soon get rid of the disaster and regain the joy.

展區 1「復古即創新」

透過作品帶領觀者回到過去，拉開了時間及空間的維度，從歷史脈絡和不同國家、族群的特殊文化與生活型態，觀察插畫家們如何站在時空巨人的肩膀上，去尋求自我認同，並從中獲取源源不斷的創作養份。

Creative Retro

The artworks take the viewers back to the past and open up the dimension of time and space. From the historical context and the specific cultures and lifestyles of different countries and ethnic groups, the viewers are encouraged
to observe how the illustrators stand on the shoulders of giants to seek selfidentity and gain steady nourishment for creation.

佳作⭐飛到天際線的一端 Fly to the Skyline
​
未來一直在，我們但卻一直不敢往前。
天氣劇變、天災不斷、自然的反撲，
終究告訴我們環境保護的重要。

雖然未來未來，但未來也即將來到，
總有一天，不論以哪種形式與姿態，
我們都必須學會與環境共存吧！

The future is always there; however, we have never dared to move forward.
Drastic climate change, constant natural disasters, and the backlash of nature tell us how important environmental protection is.

While the future has not yet arrived, it is approaching us.
Someday, in any form or gesture,
We must learn to live with the environment.

佳作⭐獨處練習 Lockdown Trilogy 2020-
The Practice of Solitude
​
臺灣籍。英國金斯頓大學插畫動畫系就讀中。

持續嘗試不同媒材與創作題材，探討插畫的定義。喜歡觀察，天馬行空，充滿想像力。有一顆愛地球的心，正努力結合環境教育與插畫創作。2018年開始經營粉專「去倫敦上插畫課」，詳細記錄下留學生活、英式大學教育內容以及學習反思。

Born in Taiwan, RedLouise is currently studying for her BA in Illustration Animation at Kingston University in London.

To explore the definitions of illustration, Red Louise likes to try out different materials and research multiple subject matters. Caring a lot for our planet, the artist makes a great effort to combine her practice with environmental education.

佳作⭐我的未來是什麼形狀？ What is the shape of my future?
​
未來?
可能⋯
宇宙持續運轉，
太陽依舊升起，
星星還是一樣閃爍且閃耀著，
世間的所有萬物仍照著他們的步伐緩緩生長著。
我呢？
我不知道。
「關於未來」有點無法想像，
可能有些模糊，形容不出他的模樣，
但我希望他是美好的、是幸福的，
所以我能做的是不斷不斷的努力，
向宇宙學習，緩緩成長著。

Future?
Perhaps…
The universe keeps working,
The Sun still goes up,
The stars will still be shining.
Everything in the world will keep its pace to grow.
What about me?
I don’t know.
I cannot think about “future.”
It can be subtle that I cannot describe its shape.
However, I wish it will be beautiful and wonderful.
What I can do is to keep working hard,
Learning from the universe and growing slowly.

比現代更時尚──從插畫見到傳統的美好​
​
近年來，對土地的描繪越益受重視，一向著重於國際間人文知識關懷的龍應台，近期出版了《大武山下》書寫屏東生活，重新與花草鳥獸連結，而在藝術界，在地採集主題更是風行，許多博物型藝術展如雨後春筍紛紛冒出，也由此見到對傳統文化的珍重與重新關注。​

目前正於展期中的2020桃園國際插畫大展，在「復古即創新」一區，即要透過藝術作品，帶領觀者拉開時間及空間的維度，從歷史脈絡和不同國家、族群的特殊文化與生活型態，走進地方、回望傳統，觀察插畫家如何將自身沉浸入獨特時空，尋求自我認同，並從中獲取源源不斷的創作養分。​

佳作⭐未來街景 Future Street View
​
呈現與一般不同的幻想未來科技世界感，少一點冷漠金屬感、多一點色彩和童趣，及超現實的智慧建設和飛行器交通工具等等，不完全只是追求效率與簡潔，還有企圖想與自然取得平衡而特地隔出的綠地。

This work presents an atypical landscape of the future technological world, which is less cold and metallic and more colorful and playful, with surrealistic intelligent construction and flying vehicles. It is not only about the pursuit of efficiency and simplicity, but also about the green areas that are planned to balance with nature.
