Representatives from Mountains of the Moon University and consortium partners participated in the inaugural international conference of the PLEDGE project held from 25th–28th May 2026 at the National Council for Higher Education offices in Kyambogo, Kampala.

The four-day conference focused on advancing Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) to support Uganda’s green-growth economy through collaboration between universities, government institutions, industry, and international partners.

The PLEDGE project is a European Union-funded Erasmus+ initiative aimed at strengthening local expertise, green skills, innovation, and sustainable development within higher education institutions.

Speaking during the conference, Professor Pius Coxwell Achanga, the Vice Chancellor of MMU described the project as an important milestone for the university and Uganda’s higher education sector, noting that it would strengthen practical skills training, enhance collaboration with industry, and support the transition toward a green-growth economy.

The project also seeks to strengthen sustainable value chains in coffee, tourism, and horticulture while promoting research, innovation, climate resilience, and youth employability.
