Following the Presidential directive on measures to curb the spread of COVID-19,the Ministry would like to pronounce the following resolutions to the different affected stakeholders.
Pre-primary, primary, secondary schools and Primary Teachers' Colleges will open for the continuation of Term 1 on the 27th of April 2020 up to 12th June 2020. Term 2: 22nd June to 4th September and Term 3: 21st September to 19th December 2020,that is if everything goes as planned.
Universities and Tertiary Institutions including BTVET institutions' continuation of the Semester will be on the 2nd of May 2020.
The Ministry will still operate 3 school Terms and 2 Semesters for lower and higher Institutions of learning respectively. When schools re-open,it will be a continuation of Term 1. NO extra fees should be charged!
To recover the lost days, the first and second Term holidays will be shorter.
There shall be no formal test or examinations at the end of Term 1,so the time should be used for teaching and learning. Cumulative end if topic class based results should be used on end of Term reports.
Candidates shall do only ONE set of Mock examinations, that is school generated,at the end of Term 2. Therefore all schools are herewith barred from engaging students in any externally set Mock examinations this year,to ensure that syllabus recovery time is not wasted.
For the Universities that have been for forcing students to pay for online Examinations yet some students can't afford,we have decided that all these Examinations be suspended until we are out of this crisis.
The Ministry will send a harmonized continuous learning program for all Primary and Secondary school learners to all Local Governments and Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda Association (ASSHU), where selected Teachers will use the secured government Radio and Tv airtime.
