Makerere University, Center for Innovations and Professional Skills Development (CiPSD) is operating under the College of Computing and Information Sciences and houses a number of business units including;
• Professional Skills Development/ Short Courses (Cisco Academy Courses, Microsoft, Oracle, ICDL etc),
• Software Business Incubation (SBI) and Software Development,
• Microsoft Innovations C

enter (MIC- Uganda),
• The Tele-Education (Amity & IGNOU Programs) under the Pan African E-network project, International Testing Center and
• 3D Animation School – Digimation UK
• ITU Center of Excellence

CiPSD’s strategy is to offer services that are responsive to the needs of the community, that yield better service delivery and also provide new avenues of entrepreneurial skills. This is achieved through tailoring programmes towards what the industry lacks as skills in the employed staff and software solutions. The Center has been at the forefront of assisting the Government and other organizations to build capacity of employees in ICT skills and personal development. In addition CiPSD provides technical training to regular undergraduate students in a bid to improve their skills competencies in various areas of their specialization during the 10 weeks recess term. Basic Info
The Center was setup in December 2011 in-line with the established college structures and in the pursuit of four motivations for the establishment of Colleges, I.e; a) optimal utilization of resources, b) reduction of operational costs, c) accelerating resource mobilization and d) reducing bureaucracy , hence improving decision making.

The College of Computing and IS has a Centre for Innovations and Professional Skills Development (CIPSD) that offers short professional ICT courses.
These courses appeal to a diverse range of learners ranging from secondary, university, and postgraduate students to the working professional.
They vary in duration from one to six months and are delivered at different time intervals i.e. morning, afternoon, evening, weekend classes, or as boot camps.

Upon completion students will earn a certificate of attendance or competence.

This project which is funded by the Research and Innovations Fund of Makerere University is a COVID-19 surveillance and early detection system “COVID-19 Rapid Response” a mobile and web-based application that will enable citizens to report suspicious cases of COVID-19 at their convenience and also assist health experts to monitor COVID-19 discharged patients.

From the platform citizens are able to report COVID-19 suspicious cases with symptoms, the health experts on the other hand are able to assess the information received and respond accordingly. The health experts are also in position to monitor discharged patients of COVID-19 to prevent new infections in the community.

The seminar will take place from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Thursday, 4th March 2021 and shall be an online based event.
