A group of students from Nigeria namely; Henry Nwachuku, Emmanuel Agbezukey, and Blessings Bolaji, won the CoMMPASS Journalists Award. The award rewarded outstanding, ethical, evidence-based and innovative reporting on migration. The award winner was announced during the CoMMPASS Conference that was held in Mukono, Uganda. The second place went to Djakaridia Sirius from Burkina Faso, while third place went to Collins Mtika from Malawi.

In the picture below, Dr. Michel Leroy, CoMMPASS Academic Project Manager presented the award to Nigerian representatives who received the award on behalf of the winners.

WHO IS MIGUEL CRESPO?

Miguel Crespo is the director of Cenjor - the Portuguese Training Centre for Journalists, a researcher at CIES-University Institute of Lisbon, and at OberCom – The Portuguese Communication Observatory, and a visiting professor at Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon. A journalist since 1989, he has been editor, editor-in-chief and publisher of magazines and online projects, and an editorial consultant. He is a journalists trainer and professor since 2001. His areas of interest and research are digital communication, journalism education, media literacy, disinformation, multimedia digital storytelling, media business models and innovation.

Presenting on: How networking among educators can promote the advantages of online teaching in the field of Journalism.

WHO IS SISANDA NKOALA?

Sisanda Nkoala is a former award-winning journalist turned NRF-rated Associate Professor in the University of the Western Cape’s Linguistics Department. She is a joint holder of the UWC Media Inclusion and Diversity Chair. Beyond the academy, Prof Nkoala is a key leader shaping the field, currently serving as the President of the South African Communication Association (SACOMM) and the Secretary General of the African Journalism Educators' Network (AJEN). Her governance and influence extend to national oversight, as she is a public representative on the South African Press Council and a member of the Appeals Tribunal of the South African Film and Publication Board, in addition to her role on the International Council for IAMCR. Her thought leadership has been featured in international and national platforms such as Reuters, Sputnik News, Newzroom Africa and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, among others.
