This week is the closing reception for our final round of Senior Exhibitions! See Rico Imus’s exhibition “banyuhay” on Friday, April 17 from 6-8p in JFAC Gallery.

Banyuhay is the Filipino term for “metamorphosis and change.” Rico views transformation as a constant and necessary part of survival, shaped by his early experiences growing up in an orphanage and finding stability in nature, especially through observing insects. These experiences inform his understanding of metamorphosis as both a physical and emotional process, which becomes central to his artistic practice. Rico’s sculptures reflect ongoing states of change, vulnerability, and adaptation, translating personal growth into forms that resist a sense of completion. Using paper as both material and metaphor, they highlight its fragility and strength, mirroring human resilience, and emphasize that transformation is continuous and essential to growth.
