Move-In Day: Tech Major Edition 💻📦

Move-in day math:

1 mini fridge + 47 trips to the car + 3 trips to Target + 1 missing power strip = COLLEGE. 😂

Meanwhile, the tech major has already:
💻 Troubleshot the Wi-Fi
🔌 Built the perfect charging station
🖥️ Set up the monitor
⌨️ Organized the cables
…and somehow turned their dorm room into a command center.

Welcome home, future tech leaders! 💜🐾

Now let’s see if you can make it through the sem

We're on a Wildcat roll with our New Faculty Intros! Meet Bethany Witemeyer, whose Wildcat roots run deep!

She's an accomplished academic. She received her BS in 2020 from ACU with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science, and her PhD from Texas A&M University in Computer Science in 2025.

When it comes to research, Bethany specializes in computer graphics. “Specifically, I specialize in physically-based simulation and numerical methods,” she says. “I also plan to join the other computer science professors in their research on computer science education.”

That interest in computer science education, along with her faith, is what drew her back to ACU to teach. Having loved her time here as an undergrad, she said, “I wanted to teach somewhere where my faith could shine alongside my academic pursuits, and ACU is the perfect place for that!”

Her faith will definitely play a big part in the way she teaches. “I think it all comes down to the fact that human beings are created by God and deserve to be treated as such. This affects the way I run my classroom, the way I talk about ethics, and the way I approach the development of technology - extending kindness and mercy to others and working for their good.”

And here's something surprising that students might not guess: despite working in the field of technology, she says she's not really much of a technology person, preferring to spend her free time reading and crafting.

She hopes students walk away from her classes with confidence - not only in the material they've studied, but also in their ability to solve problems and learn new skills.

Welcome home, Bethany! We're so glad you're here.

Thinking about a career in game design, animation, or digital media? This is what studying Digital Entertainment Technology at ACU looks like. 🎮

In the DET 465 Virtual Production Studio class, students produced a fully realized video game advertisement in a single semester - handling concept art, storyboarding, 3D modeling, character animation, mixed reality, and original audio as a team.

No two students did the same thing. Every role mattered. And the final product? See for yourself.

If you can imagine yourself behind the scenes of something like this, ACU's DET program might be exactly where you belong. 💜

Grad Highlight: Alejandro Palomino | Computer Science

Alejandro is staying close to ACU after graduation, stepping into a research position at the NEXT Lab, a natural next step for someone with his drive and curiosity. His favorite memory from his time at ACU was the recent Toyota Career Day trip with ALPFA and COBA, an experience that clearly gave him a taste of what's possible when you put yourself in the right rooms.

His advice to freshmen is practical, proven, and worth starting on day one: "Start applying for internships beginning your freshman year, make lots of connections, network, and take part in as many events as possible."

Congratulations, Alejandro! May God bless you and keep you.

Grad Highlight: Jenna Keeley | Computer Science, Software Engineering

Jenna is taking an exciting next step as she is heading to SMU Dedman School of Law this fall. Her standout memory from COBA captures exactly the kind of experience that likely shaped that path: serving as a Philanthropy Lab Fellow, where she and her classmates worked together to allocate $80,000 to local nonprofits and witnessed the impact of their decisions firsthand.

Her advice to freshmen is thoughtful and direct: "Learn to embrace discomfort. The moments that stretch you academically, socially, and personally are the most transformative."

Congratulations, Jenna! May God bless you and keep you.

Grad Highlight: Andi Moyer | Digital Entertainment Technology

Andi is stepping into the next chapter with her eyes wide open as she is searching for internships and the right mentor to help shape her path forward. Her favorite part of her time at ACU? Tutoring freshman classes and helping new students find their footing and discover their niche.

When it comes to advice, Andi doesn't hold back. "Just say yes! You can make lasting friends, great memories, and learn so much just by getting out of your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to take up space, especially as a girl in a STEM major!!"

Congratulations, Andi! May God bless you and keep you.

Every year, the ACU Faculty Senate selects fifty outstanding seniors to receive the University Scholars Award. These students are chosen for their leadership on campus, academic excellence, and a genuine commitment to Christian service. It's one of the most meaningful ways we get to celebrate the students who make ACU what it is.

This year, two students from the School of Information and Technology earned the honor. To qualify, students must carry a GPA of 3.5 or higher, have completed at least 90 credit hours, and show a true dedication to learning in their field. These students did exactly that!

Congratulations to DET major Matthew Carlson (not pictured) and computer science major Jenna Keeley. We're so proud of you!

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Brian Burton, Associate Professor of DET, on receiving the University Innovator Award at the inaugural Texas Innovation Conference & Awards!

The conference, held April 22–23, 2026 at TCU in Fort Worth, brings together researchers, startups, investors, and ecosystem leaders from across Texas to spotlight those turning research into real-world impact.

We're so proud to see Dr. Burton recognized among the state's most high-impact innovators. Well deserved! 👏

If this were athletics, this is the championship tournament for our DET program! We're excited to announce that, once again, ACU's Digital Entertainment Technology program finished at the top of the Princeton Review 2026 standings.

#1 Christian Game Development Major
#1 in the Southwest (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona)
#29 in the World

Our students showed up. Our faculty delivered. And once again, DET finished at the top of the standings in our region.

ACU's DET program is not standing still. The program continues to evolve alongside the industry, with a growing emphasis on integrating AI into the game development pipeline in thoughtful, practical ways. Our students are learning how to use these tools to strengthen design, storytelling, and production, preparing them for where the field is heading next.

This week our own DET professor, Dr. Brian Burton and ACU alum, Travis Corrigan ('22), were guests on the podcast Abilene People. Burton is the director of our Digital Entertainment Technology program and is a national thought leader in AI, game development, and digital ethics.

Burton and Corrigan keep the conversation easy to follow while unpacking big ideas. Together, they show how AI and digital tech aren’t just futuristic concepts—they’re already part of everyday life.
