🎬 Please join us in welcoming Dominique (Garza ‘06) Anderson to the faculty in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication!

Professor Anderson joins JMC as an assistant professor and will oversee the department’s Film and Media Creation degree. A JMC graduate in electronic media, she returns to her alma mater with extensive experience as a filmmaker, photographer, producer, director and editor.

Anderson earned an M.F.A. in Film and Television Production from Asbury University in 2025 and is the owner of Blissful Sky Studio in Fort Worth. Her work includes commercial, nonprofit and community-based productions, as well as the festival-selected films “Bailando Culture,” “Keys to Hope” (as an adjunct instructor) and “Lil’ Audition.”

She serves on the Fort Worth Film Commission’s executive advisory board and the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board and is a member of the Telly Awards Judging Council as well as the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, helping select statewide Emmy Awards.

Anderson is already well known to our students, having taught Documentary Production as an adjunct faculty member for the past two years. Her teaching combines hands-on production, thoughtful reflection and collaborative critique within a Christ-centered creative community. This fall, she will teach Film Production, Photography and Promotional Video Practicum, giving students opportunities to create professional work for real-world clients.

We are thrilled to welcome Dominique home and excited for the experience, energy and industry connections she brings to our students and the future of film at ACU.

Welcome back to JMC, Professor Anderson! 💜

Rodney was a great friend to JMC and our students. We will truly miss him.

We are praying today for the family and friends of Dr. Rodney Ashlock (’91 M.Div.), beloved faculty member in the College of Biblical Studies and director of faculty development in the Adams Center for Teaching and Learning, who died unexpectedly last Saturday at age 60.

Reaccredited! The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication renewed its accreditation of JMC in a unanimous vote at its annual meeting in Washington D.C. Tuesday. The department first earned the designation in 2001, and its reaccreditation is a recognition of the quality of the program, its degree offerings and its outstanding students and alums!

Next up, hear from KACU reporter Leslie Carrigan!

"Hello! My name is Leslie Carrigan. I am a Junior journalism major from Midland. I’ve been working at ACU since my freshman year as a reporter and I spend one semester hosting. During my time at ACU I have gotten to cover anything from the city council, to elections to local events. Recently I got to cover a feature on the Party Line booth by Seven and One Books. Outside the newsroom I love reading, embroidery and hanging out with friends. I love working at KACU and I’m so grateful for the experience and training it’s given me."

Students like Leslie make KACU special! Consider supporting us during on Tuesday to help continue to provide students with opportunities like these.

The JMC Video Podcasting Fund will transform an existing space in the Student Media News Lab into a professional video podcasting studio that empowers students to become confident, creative and ethical communicators in today’s digital world. At its heart, this project is about students – giving them a place to practice, experiment and lead in a media environment that increasingly blends audio, video and storytelling into a single, dynamic platform.
