ACU will tip off against #11-seed UCLA at 4:15 p.m, on Monday, March 22nd with a berth in the NCAA’s Sweet Sixteen at stake.

All classes that begin at 4 p.m. or after are cancelled for tomorrow. Administrative offices may also close at 4 p.m.

Due to rain and heavy winds predicted in Abilene tomorrow afternoon, we’ll be taking the party indoors at the Abilene Convention Center. With Moody down for construction, there is nowhere on campus large enough to host this gathering.

Doors will open at 3 p.m. at the Convention Center, 1100 N. 6th St., in downtown Abilene. Social distancing will be encouraged, and face masks will be required since we’ll be indoors. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase so no outside food or beverages will be allowed.

Wear your purple, and cheer the Wildcats on to victory again! We took down the Longhorns, and we can do it again against UCLA. We’ll see you there!

ACU Faculty and Staff in Abilene,
Be sure to add your name to the Medical Clinic's waitlist for a vaccine. Details can be found in your email or in the myACU newsletter on Monday.

People 50+ will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine beginning March 15. Texas will continue to protect those at the greatest risk of COVID-19 hospitalization and death.

“We’ve seen a remarkable decrease in the number of hospitalizations and deaths since people 65 and older started becoming fully vaccinated in January. Expanding to ages 50 to 64 will continue the state’s priorities of protecting those at the greatest risk of severe outcomes and preserving the state’s health care system.”
-Imelda Garcia, DSHS associate commissioner for laboratory and infectious disease services and chair of the Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel.

There are about 5 million Texans between the ages of 50 and 64; more than 1 million of them are already vaccinated.

City of Abilene, Texas Government

Abilene has lifted the boil water notice this afternoon. We still need to CONSERVE water so that the city can provide water to the rural areas that purchase water from Abilene. Many of our friends and neighbors in Buffalo Gap, Tuscola, etc. have limited or no water. Please just use what you need for a few more days.

💧UPDATE: 4pm 2/21/21 City of Abilene is *no longer* under a boil water notice. The boil water notice has ended, water can be consumed from the tap without boiling.
⭐Added to note: Each of Abilene's contracted wholesale water purchasers must rescind the boil water notice for its customers independently of the City of Abilene.

ACU Faculty and Staff please contact Human Resources if you are still experiencing issues with your power, water etc. or have other concerns.

Students please contact SOAR if you are still experiencing issues with your power, water, etc.

💧 UPDATE: The City of Abilene's boil water notice is still in effect. The City anticipates lifting the boil water notice Monday, 2/22/21, barring any unforeseen issues. Until you receive notice from the City of Abilene rescinding the boil water notice, you must continue boiling water before it is consumed or ingested. We are working as hard as possible to rescind the boil water notice sooner, if possible.

As we begin to warm up today many are wondering how their water pipes will hold up. Thanks to Abilene Chamber of Commerce for the following tips in dealing with broken water pipes.

If you have a pipe burst in your home or business, follow the steps below:
Turn main water supply off
File a claim as soon as possible with your insurance company
Do not make permanent repairs until a claim has been filed & damage has been inspected by adjuster
Check home for water leaks/damage when it is safe
Check personal property for damage
Do not dispose of any damaged property until an adjuster has completed the inspection
Take photos/videos of all damage; both property (home) and personal belongings
Clean damage after it has been documented; not cleaning can cause more damage

What to do if pipes are frozen:
Turn main water supply off
It is better if you get assistance from a plumber/professional

Tips if no plumber is available:
Remove water hoses from outside water sockets, this will help indoor faucets drain
Cover outside water sockets
Turn indoor water faucets on before you apply heat to the pipes
Start closest to the faucet and work your way down the pipe
If you cannot reach/locate the pipe; contact a plumber

Tips when contacting insurance company:
Do not use the word “flood” because insurance companies have a specific definition of the word flood and floods are only covered under a separate policy. Always refer to your claim as “water damage.”
Emphasis the burst pipe was “sudden/accidental” due to weather.
Make sure to read and understand the work authorization forms you are signing.
You might want to write “any billing is subject to an agreement and approval by the insurance company” when working with an emergency service company. You might have reported the damage and may have a claim number but remember that you might be on your own until the claim is approved.

Jimmy Ellison’s big plans for the new year were to transition to chief of police for the city of Mont Belvieu near Houston, where he and Kathy’s children and grandchildren live. Before he leaves ACU, Jimmy has one more story to share. Please join us in praising God for Jimmy and all he has meant to ACU for the last 20 years.

Every 40 seconds, the CDC says somebody in the U.S. has a heart attack.

Just over a week ago, ACU Police Department Chief Jimmy Ellison was one of those people. He shared his story with us -- hoping it helps save someone else's life.
