The Case for Doing Nothing

"Running from place to place and laboring over long to-do lists have increasingly become ways to communicate status: I’m so busy because I’m just so important, the thinking goes.Perhaps it’s time to stop all this busyness. Being busy — if we even are busy — is rarely the status indicator we’ve come to believe it is." https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/29/smarter-living/the-case-for-doing-nothing.html

Stop being so busy, and just do nothing. Trust us.

Thanks to Dr. Sarah Easter for letting us know that our very own gem, Professor Jozell Brister, was mentioned in an article from the Wall Street Journal by a former student. May we never underestimate the impact we have on each other.

From the WSJ (In Praise of Great Professors)
Students reflect on what made their best teachers so special. May 7, 2019 6:52 p.m. ET:

“Prof. Jozell Brister opened the world of economics to me in her classes my sophomore year. She made seemingly obscure economic principles understandable. After taking her class, I changed my major from English to finance. Yet she had the biggest impact on me by encouraging her students to sign up for The Wall Street Journal. I took her advice and it’s been one of the best decisions of my business life. That was 1982, and I’ve been a subscriber ever since. Meanwhile, she’s still teaching and still recommending the Journal.

—Paul Heard, Abilene Christian University (class of 1985), finance”

"I love COBA for the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of our students and the family of believers that encourages my Christian Walk. It is such a blessing to be part of something bigger than ourselves and realize that we are loved beyond measure! The Lord is blessing us each day in Heavenly realms as we walk side by side to serve Him (Eph 1:3)."

"Alexis de Tocqueville, in his famous work Democracy in America, (1835) said that “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

I love COBA because she is good. The College was built on the shoulders of men and women who possessed a deep in faith in God and a remarkable vision of the future and gave the Business School its imprimatur of faith and genuine goodness.

These early leaders produced COBA graduates with shining attributes of goodness. These men and women serve their businesses, communities and churches with integrity and compassion. They embody the highest ideals of what “good” is understood to be today. They love and respect all people, see opportunities for “good” everywhere, and they strive to help wherever they can.

I love our COBA because she is good, and because our leaders and graduates continue the traditions of faith, decency, and joy in doing good works for the Lord."

But we aren't through yet: We passed our original goal of gifts from 750 donors, which unlocked $25,000 in funds! Now a group of generous donors has issued a challenge: They will add $50 to every gift made until we reach 1,000 donors. Don't wait – make a gift at acu.edu/acugives and #SupportWildcats. #ACUgives
