Today's Senior Blessing is from Dr. Katie Wick, Assistant Professor of Management Sciences.

"What an honor it has been to walk beside you for a season and witness you flourish during your time at ACU! As hard as it might be to end your undergraduate journey on such a strange semester, know that we are cheering loudly for you and celebrating your great work. We send you off to bless the world with your talents, and we are confident that 'He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.' - Philippians 1:6. "

Today's Senior Blessing is from Dr. Sarah Easter, Assistant Professor of Management.

Dear seniors,

I pray that God will give you peace, discernment, purpose and perseverance for the road ahead.

May you know how wide, how long, how high and how deep is God’s perfect and everlasting love for you.

May you take heart and remember that God has overcome the world even in today’s uncertain reality.

May you know that you are significant with or without a significant other, and that His plan is always sovereign and good.

I pray that God will give you strength and conviction to continually seek after His Kingdom first and foremost.

May God bless you with the eyes to see oppression, abuse and exploitation of people in this world, and righteous anger at these injustices, so that you will work for peace and equality.

May God bless you with anguish and compassion for those who suffer from starvation, war, and pain, so that you will reach out your hands to comfort them and change their suffering to joy.

And, may God bless you with the foolishness, passion, and strength to continually work to make a difference in this world, so that you will do the things which others say is not possible.

Amen

Having the ability to learn through experiential learning classes like STAR (Student Trading and Research) provides real-world experience that most undergraduate students don't have the opportunity to be a part of. Learning to be successful and navigate during a global pandemic and economic crisis is even more rare. Congratulations to our STAR students and Dr. Jody Jones on hitting another milestone! https://blogs.acu.edu/coba/2020/05/07/star-hits-another-milestone-and-makes-first-distribution-of-earnings/

Over the next few months, we're going to be celebrating our May Grads through our Senior Highlights, Job Celebrations, and Faculty/Staff Blessings that we'll post on social media. We hope you'll join us in congratulating this amazing class for all of their hard work, endurance and perseverance. Today, we kick things off with a blessing from our Associate Dean, Dr. Andy Little.

Seniors, we know this is an anxious and concerning time for all of us, but you especially. Your senior year has suddenly been taken away from you, without warning and with no promises that it will ever come back. You feel the absence and disorientation acutely, and in a way that mirrors grief over the loss of something very special and dear to you.

Believe that you are loved and known completely and fully by God. The deepest longings of your heart, which this pandemic has laid bare, are understood by our Creator and Friend. While this senior year has been cut short in an almost cruel way, there is a new day that will dawn for you in time. We can't wait to see how you will overcome these hurdles through God's grace. We have walked beside you for the time you were in our midst at ACU, and as you go out now, we will still walk beside you in love and support, even from a distance. You, the class of 2020, will always bear the scar of these recent days of sickness and loss. But the woundedness you now feel will eventually be a source of strength and ministry for you. As theologian Henri Nouwen reminds us, through our own woundedness we can offer the healing of God to others. So my prayer for you is that will you cherish these strange and painful moments--these scars brought on by having your senior year cut out of you--as being the paradoxical gift of God: the wounds hurt immensely, but because you will overcome this moment through his grace, the wounds will give you strength to help bring comfort and healing to a broken and hurting world.

Go forth in peace, together.

Andy

Julia Bruce, junior accounting major from San Antonio, shared with us:

“Here is one of my favorite daily reflections Dr. Fowler has sent to us. These always add a little joy to my day because they show me that ACU really is home. I can tell that our professors are missing us and are constantly praying for us in this strange time. Dr. Fowler always knows exactly what to add to the emails to bring a smile to our faces and I look forward to receiving these emails every week!”

The words we speak to others truly matter! They can make a difference in someone's day, life, and even create a ripple effect to reach and impact more people. We loved hearing Julia's appreciation for Dr. Bill Fowler's daily reflections and how this shows his care for students beyond the classroom.

In our #TellMeSomethingGood series, we're highlighting marketing major Isabella Maradiaga Molina and her best friend, Sofia Ramirez, who are using their creative skills to help people in their home country of Honduras by partnering with Operación Frijol to feed Honduran families who are in need due to the effects of COVID-19. Isabella and Sofia have created stickers for purchase saying, "Our contribution to this organization will be possible through the donation of ALL profits from the sales of these stickers! We both recognized that we are SO blessed to be safe and have everything that we need, but our hearts still feel for the many families back home who don't have enough food for the day. For this reason, we decided to do something!" We're proud of the way our students are stepping up by using their talents and heart to be world changers during this global time of need.
