Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) was founded 1967 in Abingdon, VA. VHCC's service region includes Washington County, the western portion of Smyth County, and the city of Bristol, Virginia. VHCC offers academic programs leading to associate degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

The Fall 2026 Arts Array schedule is officially here, and we’re kicking off the semester with a stunning new exhibit! 🎨

Now open in the VHCC Art Gallery (located inside the library in the GTN building), "New Haruspications" by Eric Drummond Smith brings a dynamic, pop neo-expressionist surrealist vision to life. Working with a range of materials including sumi ink, acrylics, and pastels, the artist embraces joyful dissonance and electrifying melody in his art.

This exhibit will be on display through Friday, October 30th during regular library hours, so be sure to stop by and experience what Dr. Smith foretells!

Meet Tahiti, VHCC's official Campus Facility Dog! 🐾

Tahiti is a professionally trained KSDS facility dog who is partnering with advisor and handler Joe Hamil. Together, they are bringing an extra layer of support to our campus to help lower stress, boost well-being, and make VHCC feel even more welcoming.

As a facility dog, Tahiti will accompany Joe in student advising appointments and during campus activities. Her calm and friendly presence helps make difficult conversations feel more approachable and offers a soothing boost to students, faculty, and staff during busy or stressful days.

Join us in giving Tahiti a warm welcome to campus! 💙

Through the generosity of Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia, two amazing upgrades have been made in our Welding and Diesel labs!

Installed by Wolf Hills Fabricators of Abingdon, VA, Virginia Highlands Community College now has new 5-ton Platnick overhead cranes in both labs. These cranes give our students hands-on training with industry-standard equipment while keeping heavy lifting, loading, and unloading safer than ever.

Plus, instruction just got a lot more comfortable—both programs received two new 10-ton AC units per lab, fully up and running for the fall semester to keep our students cool during those long shop hours.

We are thankful to the Wellspring Foundation for their support and investment in our students!
