🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Riley McCage ’25

Congratulations to ECU alumnus Riley McCage on being named a 2026 NextGen Under 30 Oklahoma Award recipient in the Sports & Outdoors category!

Riley earned his degree in business from East Central University in 2025 and is making a meaningful impact through his work with the Chickasaw Nation Education Department.

After growing up in the Chickasaw Nation and participating in programs that helped shape his own journey, Riley now gives back by developing and leading the Collegiate Student Athlete Program. Through this program, he helps Native student-athletes navigate the recruiting process, pursue higher education, and achieve their goals both on and off the field.

“Every day, I have the opportunity to help Native student-athletes navigate the recruiting process, pursue higher education, and achieve their goals both on and off the field,” Riley said. “I look forward to continuing to serve, grow, and create opportunities for the next generation of student-athletes.”

Riley’s commitment to service, leadership, and creating opportunities for others represents the very best of the ECU alumni community. We are proud to celebrate Riley and this well-deserved recognition!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the incredible legacy of Harland C. Stonecipher (1938–2014). His journey is a powerful testament to the values of innovation, hard work, and relentless perseverance.

Growing up in the small community of Centrahoma, Oklahoma, Harland was determined to pursue higher education, ultimately becoming the first in his family to attend college. After graduating from East Central State College in 1959, he went on to build an extraordinary career as a visionary entrepreneur.

He never forgot his roots or the university that helped shape his future. In 2011, a generous $2 million gift to the ECU Foundation Inc. from Harland and his wife, Shirley, provided the major boost needed to construct the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

Today, we are incredibly proud that our School of Business bears his name. As our business students walk through these doors every day, they are reminded of the Stonecipher name and the true impact of an entrepreneurial vision. His legacy lives on in the next generation of business leaders we prepare right here on campus.

From Ada to Germany: The 2026 SSB Business Scholar Trip!

Our scholars represented East Central University in Germany, and we couldn't be prouder. Here is a look back at an unforgettable journey:

The Highlights:

We kicked off our time in Biberach with a massive collaborative dinner alongside students and leadership from Hochschule Biberach (HBC), Reykjavik University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Bucharest.

From studying Agri-Photovoltaics at the Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee to touring the massive Liebherr Crawler Crane Factory in Ehingen and exploring the Kops Hydro Power Plant in Austria, our scholars got a firsthand look at world-leading engineering and sustainability concepts.

Students walked the historic streets of Munich and Ulm, took in the stunning views of Meersburg, hiked the breathtaking Montafon Alps in Austria, explored the island town of Lindau, and visited the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle.

From the bustling Viktualienmarkt to dinners at the historic HofbrÀuhaus and Augustiner Biergarten, this group made sure to experience the very best of Bavarian hospitality.

Thank you to our amazing hosts, partners, and the incredible faculty who made this experiential learning trip possible. Our Business Scholars are returning home with broader horizons, new global connections, and memories to last a lifetime!
