Ohio Northern University orchestra musicians are diving into spicy Latin rhythms this week alongside one of the world’s most preeminent tuba players, Patricio Cosentino.

On campus as a guest artist, Cosentino is conducting masterclasses with brass players and the orchestra, culminating in a dynamic, family-friendly concert on Sunday, October 18, at 3 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for senior citizens and non-ONU students/children, available at the door.

During his residency at ONU, Cosentino is sharing insights with students on brass technique, Latin music performance, and the realities of forging an international solo career. In addition to working with students, he will perform a solo recital with piano at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 16, in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Innovation, curiosity, and experimentation define how Dr. Lauren Logan, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Ohio Northern University, approaches her teaching.

Her dedication to developing these traits in future engineers recently earned her a Rising Star Award from the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN), a prestigious honor given to just three faculty members nationwide each year. KEEN, a partner network of more than 60 schools, recognizes junior faculty members who excel at instilling an entrepreneurial framework in undergraduate engineering programs.

Ohio Northern University celebrated and thanked a special group of donors who generously support ONU's mission during the annual H.S. Lehr Society dinner on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026.

In addition to recognizing Life Lehr members and Life Lehr Associate members, the University bestowed its 2026 Outstanding Corporate Partner Award to the Kern Family Foundation and 2026 Outstanding Philanthropist Award to Judy (Jacobs) Mifsud, BS ’70, Hon.D. ’13 and Oscar Mifsud, BSBA ’70, Hon.D. ’13.

Founded in 1974, the Lehr Society is a special group of donors who share a common interest in sustaining ONU and its students.

The ONU Honors Program and ONU Child Development Center teamed up for another successful Trike-a-thon! The fundraiser collected $1,320 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, surpassing this year’s goal.

Of all the universities Jacey Wonderly visited, Ohio Northern was the only one that embraced her dream of working in natural history. While other schools offered little encouragement, ONU offered a path forward.

“I was told, ‘You can do that. We will help you,’” Jacey recalls.

This summer, Jacey, a senior honors student double-majoring in history and environmental & field biology, was one of just 11 students nationwide selected for a prestigious internship at The Mammoth Site. During her time there, she participated in active excavations, assisted with Glyptal consolidant removal from fragile bones, educated visitors, performed micro-picking through sediment, cataloged and identified frog bones, and designed a hypothetical museum exhibit.

Reverend Brandi Grant-Rigsby, BA ’05, believes her most powerful pastoral tool is listening.

As she steps into her new role as Ohio Northern University’s Director of Religious and Spiritual Life and University Chaplain, she plans to spend her first year doing just that—listening to students and accompanying them on their spiritual journeys.

She joins ONU after nine years as the pastor at Ada United Methodist Church, where she also spent the past two years serving as part-time interim campus pastor.
