Lambda Pi Eta, Phi Xi Chapter Phi Xi is the UMUC Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta Lambda Pi Eta is the honor society of the National Communication Association.

Lambda Pi Eta (LPE) recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline. LPE (Greek transliteration ΛΠΗ) represents what Aristotle described as the three elements of rhetorical persuasion: Logos (Λογος) meaning logic, Pathos (Παθος) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Ηθος) defined as character credibility and ethics. i Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta was chartered in 2007 by Shelley Hintz, UMUC Coordinator of Student Engagement, and Dr. Amy Matten. Lambda Pi Eta was originally founded by Stephen A. Smith in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. Lambda Pi Eta became a part of the National Communication Association (NCA) in 1988, and the official honor society of NCA in July 1995. The crest of Lambda Pi Eta pays homage to the honor society’s founding institution, the University of Arkansas. As an Accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), Lambda Pi Eta has hundreds of active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide.
