UMGC proudly recognizes Keith G. Speights, our May Volunteer of the Month, for his outstanding commitment to service, mentorship, and community impact. ⭐

A United States Army veteran, 29-year member of the Masonic Order, UMGC peer leader, and president of the Alpha Phi Omega petitioning group, he has supported veterans, individuals reentering society, and students pursuing IT and STEM opportunities. His work also includes organizing community drives, mentoring students, and advocating for equal opportunities in underserved communities.

Keith believes service means consistently showing up for others and using his experiences to uplift those around him. He extends that same dedication beyond his community work into his personal life. As a father of four daughters, he considers raising them his greatest achievement. 👏

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day was established to honor fallen Civil War soldiers and later expanded to remember all U.S. service members who died in service.
