Lone Star Fraternity The Lone Star Fraternity (Pi Kappa Epsilon) is the oldest local fraternity in the United States of America, and the only chapter in existence.

Lone Star Fraternity is the oldest local fraternity in the world. We were founded on February 22, 1882 in Akron, Ohio by W.V.N. Yates, almost 130 years ago. Since Yates founded the fraternity, we have stayed only on The University of Akron's campus. This is benefits all Lone Stars because we are able to get to know most of the alumni still in the area and they get a chance to know all of the activ

e members (this has been incredibly useful for Lone Stars in finding jobs directly after graduation). On the campus of the University of Akron, most of the buildings are named after Lone Star Alumni. Over the last 128 years, many prominent community leaders have gone through Lone Star Fraternity. Many of these alumni have set up our scholarship foundations for Lone Star with The University of Akron.

On this Christmas Day, the Alumni Board would like to wish every brother and their family, a Merry Christmas and a productive and healthy New Year. We do not believe there is another organization anywhere that shares a bond as strong as the brothers of Lone Star. On this Christmas day and as we move into 2026, we would like to ask every brother include our Brother Bill Dickey in their thoughts and prayers every day. Brother Bill pledged Lone Star in the great class of 1971, and has been recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Bill has touched many lives as a fellow brother, teacher in Akron Public Schools, the wrestling coach at his alma mater North High School and through his devotion to his church. Bill's the consummate fighter and he will fight this dreaded disease with everything he has. We, the brothers of Lone Star need to give everything we have and surround Bill with strength, positivity and brotherhood as he fights to beat this dreaded disease!
