From Akron to Montreal: Our UA accounting students competed among the best in the Tax Executives Institute’s International Tax Student Case Competition.

The students — Christopher Gavriloff, Jenna Clary, Heidi Coyle, and Caleb Vogt — represented The University of Akron among a select group of 14 universities from around the world invited to participate in the competition. Faced with a complex international tax case and just three hours to develop and present a recommendation, our students put their technical knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills to work — gaining a firsthand look at the global tax profession.

“This competition pushed all of us to think differently about how tax concepts translate into real business decisions,” said Clary 💬

Congrats to Christopher Gavriloff, Jenna Clary, Heidi Coyle, and Caleb Vogt for representing UA on the international stage and showing what it means to Experience Business beyond the classroom.

Tomorrow, the J.M. Smucker Co. is taking over the College of Business + The University of Akron College of Engineering and Polymer Science for a day focused on connections, careers and opportunities for our Zips!

Students can:
• Learn about internship opportunities across the company
• Hear directly from Smucker employees during an employee panel
• Connect with professionals and explore career paths
• Meet some of the many UA alumni who are now part of the Smucker team
• Wrap up the day with Zippy + Kid Uncrustable and, of course, plenty of Uncrustables!

The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy within UA’s College of Business was proud to play a behind-the-scenes role in the University of Akron Athletics’ Offensive Coordinator of the Game promotion by certifying the random selection process 🏈

From verifying the drawing process to joining Athletics for the unveiling of the top finalists at House Three Thirty, we saw firsthand how business expertise helps bring a major university initiative to life.

The Zips’ home opener is bringing a whole new meaning to experiential learning.

The University of Akron Athletics’ Offensive Coordinator of the Game promotion has captured national attention, generating roughly 2.03 billion social media impressions worldwide and coverage from ESPN, USA Today, The New York Times and more. Now, the College of Business is helping bring the experience from the football field into the classroom.

As part of the initiative, our George W. Daverio School of Accountancy will certify the selection of the winning fan, connecting our accounting expertise to a high-profile Athletics promotion. And this fall, students in MGMT 307: Strategic Leadership in Sport Business, taught by Athletics Director Dr. Andrew Goodrich, will examine the promotion through a business lens — exploring how marketing, management, operations and fan engagement come together.

It’s a great example of how we put Experience Business into action: giving students opportunities to connect classroom concepts with initiatives happening across the University of Akron and in our community.

Dr. Alexa Fox and Dr. Yuri Martirosyan have recently been named 2026-2027 Marketing Behavioral Research Fellows by the UAkron Marketing.

Fox's research focuses on digital marketing, consumer behavior and children's online privacy, helping shape more responsible marketing practices and safer digital experiences. Martirosyan's research examines consumer behavior, artificial intelligence, virtual influencers and emerging technologies, providing insights into how consumers make decisions in an evolving marketplace.

"The fellows’ research demonstrates how academic scholarship extends far beyond the University — advancing knowledge, informing practice and enriching our classrooms by ensuring our students learn from faculty who are actively shaping the future of marketing," said Dr. Vanja Djuric Zoric, department chair and professor of practice of marketing 💬
