Bayard Rustin died on this day in 1987, just 4 days shy of the 24th anniversary of the March on Washington. Rustin was the primary organizer of the march.

Back in 1956, in Montgomery, Alabama, he played a key role in introducing Martin Luther King Jr. to Gandhi’s teachings while organizing carpools for the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

The march continues.
