Welcome to our new series, Professor Wednesdays, where we will meet Professors and get to know them a little bit more beyond the classroom!

For Christian Wechgelaer, the UAlbany MFA wasn't about acquiring a checklist of skills — it was about transformation.

An interdisciplinary artist living and working in upstate New York, Christian creates across drawing, digital media, sculpture, and installation, centering his practice on the role images play in shaping identity. He came to UAlbany drawn by its interdisciplinary structure, round-the-clock studio access, and the enthusiastic recommendations of friends who had been through the program before him.

His advice for prospective MFA students? "Think a lot, but not too much. Really interrogate why you make the work you do — but never let that stop you from actually making it. Most times, through making or thinking with your hands, you end up finding most of the answers."
