“The reality is young people are not committing crimes at the same rate” as previous generations did at their age, said University at Albany researcher Shawn Bushway.

“People under the age of 30 have had a 50% reduction in (prison) admission rates since 2000,” he said.

The Times Union highlighted new research co-authored by Bushway, a professor in Rockefeller College’s Department of Public Administration and Policy. Published in the Annual Review of Criminology, the research projects that prison populations will continue to fall by 50% over the next two decades.

Virginia Eubanks, associate professor at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, has been talking a lot lately, at bookstores, radio stations, podcasts and interviews as she tours with her new book, A Guide to Open Water Lifesaving: Lessons on Love, Care, and Survival.

It’s a remarkable work, part memoir, part trauma tale, part social criticism, part survival manual. Eubanks will tell you it’s also a love story, one that ends with a twist. A book that manages to be hopeful and helpful, without the toxic treacle you might find in a self-help book.

Eubanks will be part of a panel and book signing at the New York State Writers Institute's ninth annual Albany Book Festival on Saturday.

Congratulations to Rockefeller junior Troy Serao, who has been selected as a recipient of the Newman Civic Fellowship for the 2026-2027 cycle!

Nominated by university presidents, Newman Civic Fellows are selected based on their dedication to community engagement. They represent their campuses among peers across the state.

"I'm honored, I'm humbled, and a little nervous. It's a lot to represent 18,000 students," Serao said.
