On October 1, 2026, the Carolina Cyber Network (CCN) hosted an Escape Room Competition as part of its Fall Convening. Instructors were divided into teams of four and challenged to work together to complete a series of cybersecurity-related puzzles and activities.

The team of Gonda Watson, SCC's Program Head, IT Cybersecurity, placed first out of three teams. As a result of our first-place finish, each team member received the following prizes:

One CCN bag
One 15.6-inch portable monitor
One Raspberry Pi 5.0 kit
One Breakout EDU kit

These resources will be put to good use during our Early College Cyber Clubs meetups and in cybersecurity outreach activities with schools throughout our service area. They will provide students with hands-on opportunities to explore cybersecurity concepts, problem-solving, and emerging technology in an engaging way.

Building the workforce Stanly County needs. 🔧⚡

Stanly Community College is expanding its plumbing and electrical programs to prepare students for high-demand careers and help address a growing skilled labor shortage in the region.

With $375,000 in support from Golden LEAF, the college is launching a new Plumbing program and expanding its Electrical Systems Technology program. Students gain hands-on training, industry-recognized credentials and opportunities to connect with local employers—all in a new trades facility designed to support their success.
