We are so proud of Phillip! A full circle moment for Phillip. He began his day at the Occ Tech Center for truck driver training years ago…. Then recently started his day at the Occ Tech Center; this time not a student but driving the equipment to repave the CDL training course. ✨

At just 18 years old, Phillip Rowe paid for his tuition at Southside Virginia Community College out of pocket using graduation money. Knowing that parallel parking would be required in class, Rowe asked his dad to teach him. After mastering the skill, he returned to class and even helped demonstrate parallel parking to his peers. Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a College Librarian.

The College Librarian provides leadership and oversight for library services across SVCC, supporting student learning, academic success, faculty instruction, and institutional effectiveness. The position oversees library collections, instruction, academic support services, and daily operations at multiple campus locations, while supervising library staff, tutors, and work-study students. The College Librarian plays a key role in promoting information literacy, supporting retention and completion efforts, and ensuring library services align with institutional goals. SVCC strives to maintain a culture of care for all students; accordingly, the College Librarian provides student-centered leadership that supports, promotes, and sustains a Culture of Care through accessible, inclusive, and responsive library services.

SVCC welcomed Cohort 26-1 to the Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center this week! Classrooms were filled of Microsoft’s Military Datacenter Pathway as well as the new MDP VETS pilot program. These servicemen and women received intensive hands-on training in SVCC’s mock datacenter and mock critical environment labs. Be on the look out for the full release, but for now enjoy highlights from the week!
