The for this week hails from Gallup, NM and is studying Architecture with a Pre-Professional Architecture Concentration – Cody Arviso (Diné)! Cody is a sophomore, a Chief Manuelito Scholar, and a Diné Club member who’s also working on re-charting the Indigenous Architecture Student Club. As an architecture student, he conducts extensive research on the environmental factors, culture, materials, precedents, design strategies, and more for his studio projects. Currently, he’s researching Park City, Utah’s Indigenous history and the convergence of cultures in the area to inform his designs. When he’s not studying & working in the studio, you’ll find Cody working out and playing golf (he’s proud to say that he’s a single-digit handicap golfer!). Cody decided to attend because of its outstanding architecture program and the ability to stay in NM! Fun Facts: Cody’s heroes are his parents & Pharrell Williams, he loves to play volleyball, and he enjoys making pottery! His proudest UNM moments (so far) are his final critique last semester for architecture studio and earning a spot on the Dean’s List. He shares these words with the Lobo community: “Live your life and savor every minute.” Congrats Cody on all your successes and we look forward to your bright future!

Let’s hear it for Tai Ritter (Tohono O'odham Nation)! She plans to use her Psychology major & Music minor to become a Music Therapist 🎵🎙, combining her passions of music & helping others! Tai is this week’s and we’re excited to share what this first-year student has been up to! She’s a member of the Fervent Praise Gospel Choir at , an AISS Ambassador, and she’s a part of the 2024 AISB Fall Experience cohort. Volunteerism is important to Tai, she volunteers with UNM recruitment & outreach events as an Ambassador, she & her family foster cats & kittens 😻 for the Animal Humane Society, and she supports the Abq Blue Star Mothers 💙 with fundraising & making/sending care packages to active & retired US military. A few fun facts: you might catch Tai performing with some local theater companies 🎭, her favorite color is green 🟢, and her favorite pastimes are to read & listen to music while relaxing in a hammock. At the end of her high school senior year, Tai was gifted with the Open Door Award, a memorial scholarship celebrating a choir student’s legacy, their “light”, and the impact they had on the school choir. This award motivates her to help others & continue her education. Her mom & stepdad are also major motivators & heroes for Tai, they’ve taught her strength and encouraged her to always follow her dreams. Tai’s words of advice to the Lobo community is: “Live every day like there is no tomorrow!” Congrats Tai! We cannot wait to see all the amazing things your set to accomplish!
