Last week, we introduced the six faculty members joining the Ellis community this fall. Now, we’re getting to know them individually.

First up is Gabriel Gazzoli, assistant professor in the Department of Marketing, Information and Decision Sciences.

Gabriel first joined Ellis as a clinical business faculty member in August 2025 and begins his tenure-track role as an assistant professor this semester. He is currently teaching marketing management and marketing strategy.

“I am looking forward to working with our students and connecting what they learn in the classroom with real-world business challenges and decisions.”

Gabriel’s research focuses on organizational frontlines and transformative service, including the interactions between customers and employees during service encounters and how service systems can contribute to the well-being of individuals, communities and ecosystems.

Before joining UNM, Gabriel was an assistant professor at Georgia Southern University and New Mexico State University. He holds a Ph.D. in marketing and a master’s degree in hospitality administration and management from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor’s degree in hospitality business management from Washington State University.

Our Executive MBA community continued the Industry and Alumni Speaker Series with Brad Cook, BBA ’02, EMBA ’15, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Presbyterian Medical Group. Brad oversees approximately 1,200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians, more than 40 clinics and about 2,000 employees across New Mexico.

Brad reflected on his own EMBA experience and the lessons that have stayed with him throughout his career. He emphasized that some of the program’s greatest value came from learning how to work through challenges with others and building relationships that lasted well beyond graduation. He also shared how his business background and EMBA experience continue to inform the difficult trade-offs he makes as a health care leader.

Drawing on more than two decades at Presbyterian, Brad gave students and alumni an inside look at the business of health care and the challenges facing New Mexico. The conversation covered access to care and provider shortages, the economics of health care, rural and virtual care, changing reimbursement models and the need to build sustainable systems that continue to meet patients’ needs.

He also shared how Presbyterian is approaching transformation, from expanding virtual care and using AI to reduce administrative burdens to rethinking operations and finding new ways to increase access to care. Throughout the conversation, Brad challenged the group to think about the role business leaders can play in solving some of New Mexico’s most complex problems.

Thank you, Brad, for returning to Ellis and sharing your EMBA experience, leadership perspective and candid look at the future of health care in New Mexico.

We’re excited to welcome six faculty members to the Ellis community this fall!

Bringing expertise across accounting, management, marketing, information systems and decision sciences, our newest faculty members are already adding new perspectives to the classroom and our academic community.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing each of them individually to learn more about what they teach, their research interests, their professional and academic backgrounds, and what they’re looking forward to at Ellis.

Also joining our faculty is a familiar Ellis face, Gabriel Gazzoli, who is transitioning into an assistant professor role in Marketing, Information & Decision Sciences.

Stay tuned as we get to know our newest faculty members!

Shannon Rainosek, CEO of Frontier Restaurant and a 1991 alumna, has made a $250,000 gift to establish the Shannon Rainosek Student Success Fund. The endowed fund will help students pursue experiences beyond the classroom, including internships, competitions, conferences and international opportunities.

Her gift is also the first to unlock matching support through the Ellis Challenge Fund, extending its impact and providing additional support for student success.

For Shannon, investing in these opportunities is also an investment in New Mexico.

“By connecting students with New Mexico businesses, the fund can inspire them to build their careers here rather than elsewhere. Retaining strong talent will help strengthen New Mexico’s business community.”

Before the fall semester began, students from The James & Gail Ellis School of Business Leadership and UNM ALPFA traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the 2026 ALPFA Convention.

The national gathering gave students opportunities to connect with peers and professionals, participate in workshops and bring new ideas and perspectives back to UNM.

Three Ellis students shared their reflections:

Jorge Bouche-Cardenas
Jorge connected with students and professionals from across the country, gaining career advice while also building friendships with fellow ALPFA members from communities across the U.S.

Audriana Gallegos
At her first ALPFA National Convention, Audriana met with companies and organizations, connected with students from around the country and left the experience feeling empowered and motivated to continue working toward her goals.

Daniel Rubalcava
Representing UNM ALPFA as chapter president, Daniel participated in workshops with industry professionals and came away with a renewed appreciation for authenticity, relationship-building and leadership as he enters his senior year.

Experiences like these give Ellis students the opportunity to build professional connections, learn from people across industries and bring those lessons back to their campus community.
