Dear Colleagues,

Sharing a wonderful opportunity for your medical students sponsored by our nationally acclaimed Wolfson DOCS program. Please read below and circulate as you see fit.
Have a great day,
Hilit

The Community Health Leadership Conference (CHLC) hosted by the Mitchell Wolfson Sr. Department of Community Service (DOCS) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is rapidly approaching for the 2019-2020 academic year. The conference will be held December 13 through December 14, 2019, in the pleasant “winter” of Miami, FL.

CHLC aims to enhance the community health initiatives of our nation’s medical schools through collaboration and discussion. Student leaders are invited to present their successes and challenges in community health projects as well as network with other medical students with similar initiatives. The conference includes oral and poster presentations, addresses from keynote speakers, and collaborative sessions where students will meet to share ideas and discuss ways to improve community service delivery at their own institution. In addition, attendees are invited to attend the DOCS Liberty City Health Fair and have the chance to get a tour of our student-run needle-exchange IDEA Clinic.

Instructions for submitting an abstract for either an oral or poster presentation and more information regarding the conference can be found here:
https://umdocs.mededu.miami.edu/docs-student-leadership-retreat/how-to-apply/.

The early-bird deadline will be Sunday, October 20th and the early-bird price will be $120. The regular deadline will be Thursday, October 31st and the regular price will be $150. The application can be found here:

Come Meet the Dogs!

Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW) will visit UNM’s North Campus from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, on HSC Plaza’s grassy area (opposite Fitz Hall). Please stop by to pet the dogs, meet their handlers and learn about their training.

The ADW Program teaches diverse student populations to support the work of professional dog trainers. Each ADW dog learns a minimum of 90 commands. Additional training educates dogs to serve complex disabilities like PTSD and medical alerts. The handlers love interacting with students, answering questions and even teaching dog training moves. Learn more on ADW’s website.

ADW will revisit HSC on the first Monday of each month moving forward. We hope to see you there! For related questions, email [email protected].
