Alpha Phi Omega - Delta Chapter

Alpha Phi Omega - Delta Chapter Founded in 1927 "to develop Leadership, to promote Friendship, and to provide Service to humanity" on the campus of Auburn University

Alpha Phi Omega (ΑΦΩ) is the largest collegiate co-ed fraternity in the United States, with chapters at over 350 campuses, an active membership of approximately 17,000 students, and over 350,000 alumni members. Founded at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1925, Alpha Phi Omega is the only National Co-Ed Service Fraternity in the world. Since 1976, Alpha Phi Omega has been a co-ed frater

nity focused on recruiting college men and women with an earnest desire to render service to others. Here at Auburn, you have the unique opportunity to join the oldest continually active chapter of the service fraternity: Delta Chapter, est. 1927. For over 87 years, Delta Chapter has contributed to Auburn University's beautiful campus with donating the Auburn site marker in front of Samford Hall, obtaining and upkeeping the lathe in Samford Park, fundraising through Ugliest Man on Campus (now Big Man on Campus hosted by Zeta Tau Alpha) to build Ross Square Fountain, and probably the most famous of all, the caring for of the Auburn War Eagles for over 40 years.

Sad to learn that Delta 878 Lowell Ledbetter, former advisor, passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 92. He was a well respected advisor who served as Director of Foy Union for many years. He had the Chapter up to his cabin on Lake Martin many times. His was next door to Dean Foy’s and they were very good friends. He donated his body to UAB so they will not be having a memorial service until later.

I was sad to learn today that one of our outstanding former advisors, Delta 869, Captain William S. “Bud” Smith, passed away this past Sunday. He was one of the best examples of Leadership, Friendship, and Service and exemplified the Auburn Creed, as much as anyone I know. I have fond memories of interactions with him and his service to the Chapter. He helped us so much as a director of the Foy Union, and then helped a lot of brothers on an even more personal level when he moved to the Registrar’s Office. There will be a Memorial Service on July 11, at 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church in Auburn. The family is still working on the obituary but if I get access I’ll share it here.
