Robert Morris University is proud to host the opening reception for Associated Artists of Pittsburgh’s 112th Annual Exhibition: Near Here on Friday, September 11, from 5–8 p.m. in the Media Arts Gallery.

This year’s Annual Exhibition extends across a network of university galleries throughout Western Pennsylvania, bringing together RMU, Slippery Rock University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Seton Hill University in a regional celebration of contemporary art.

Near Here features work by 45 artists who explore what it means to be “near” and how proximity is shaped through bodies, objects, environments, and geographies. The exhibition was juried by Allison Lacher, a curator, visual artist, and arts administrator whose work spans institutional and independent contexts.

Opening Reception
Friday, September 11 | 5–8 p.m.

Alumna Spotlight! 🎨✨ Take a look at this incredible completed mural from Media Arts grad Amber Holt ('26) for Mural Fest, along with a quick sneak peek at her process!

We love seeing our alumni making an impact through public art. If you’re visiting Justus Park during the Allegheny River Music & Arts Festival, be sure to check out all the finished pieces in person. After the festival, these monoliths will be permanently installed right near Oil City's bike trails!

Fantastic work, Amber! 👏

Join us this Saturday for the opening of The Light Divides, and the Story Multiplies, a group exhibition featuring work by RMU Media Arts Professor Christine Holtz alongside Pittsburgh artists Andy Julo, Christine Lorenz, Michele Randall, and Cathleen Richards.

Curated by Dan Hendrickson, the exhibition explores how contemporary artists are pushing cyanotype beyond its 19th-century origins through photography, digital imagery, textiles, painting, mixed media, and experimental processes.

Repost from PIT Arts & Culture Program

If we had to describe the artists of our third artist talk in one word, the answer would be easy: color! On August 18th you’ll get the chance to hear Carolina Loyola-Garcia, Clayton Merrell, Lori Hepner, and Sharmistha Ray talk about their artwork at the airport. Let’s start with Concourse B and explore Carolina Loyola-Garcia s “Fractal Dance in Transit Gardens”.

Carolina’s fractals merge flora and the human condition. When you take a step closer, you’ll recognize the many characters often present at an airport! Carolina created this piece by observing the movement of travelers and workers at PIT, using those observations to later photograph actors and dancers recreating poses. She then used digital collaging to create intricate fractals with the photos.

The flora present in the collages were captured from Carolina’s own neighborhood – Pittsburgh’s Highland Park. “Fractal Dance in Transit Gardens” brings joy and wonder to PIT, and it highlights the connection between the airport and the greater Pittsburgh community.

To learn more about Carolina’s fascinating process, come to her presentation on August 18th! The link for the artist talk is in the bio.
