"When I was leaving high school, I knew that going off to college and accumulating tons of debt was not what I wanted for my life. USC Salkehatchie offered me the opportunity to not only get my degree, but be able to stay at home and work."

For Hampton County native Erin Long ('10), choosing USC Salkehatchie meant pursuing her dream of becoming an educator without sacrificing her financial future or leaving the community she loved. 🌟

Today, Erin has come full circle—serving as the Director of Communication and Community Engagement for the Hampton County School District, where she uses her classroom experience and passion for education to impact the next generation every single day.

Join us in celebrating Luke Mixson, our newest Aiming for Excellence Award recipient! 🎉

Luke is recognized for his constant helpfulness, respectful nature, and the positive impact he makes on our campus every single day. Whether he is demonstrating an everyday readiness to serve—like his recent, heroic (and humane) relocation of a snake outside of Spruce Hall 🐍—or stepping up in major moments, Luke truly embodies excellence.

Managing commencement week is no small feat, but when Todd Padgett was away, Luke stepped forward and successfully executed the logistics plan he was provided.

We are grateful for his dedication, teamwork, and leadership. Thank you for everything you do, Luke! 👏👏
