Fifty Iowa State Theatre students, faculty, and staff traveled to Minnesota in January for the Region 5 American College Theatre Festival, where they showcased their talents alongside peers from more than 75 Midwestern colleges and universities. 🎭

Two students, Kyrstin Holmes and Fiona Addy, earned prestigious national finalist awards.

“Knowledge is always something to pursue. And when we do it as a community, it’s such a beautiful thing,” said Fiona Addy (‘26 performing arts).

Students met faculty and staff, enjoyed a lunch of grilled hamburgers and impossible burgers, sides and dessert, and spent time together. Yesterday, 150 Iowa high school students joined us for an All-State Workshop to hone their craft in preparation for upcoming All-State auditions. Students had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Iowa State faculty, attend a faculty audition panel, and rehearse alongside other outstanding young musicians from across the state. It was a fantastic day of music-making, learning, and community. We loved having everyone on campus and wish all of the students the best in their auditions this fall!

Junior Theatre major Oliver Gooch performed the role of Maureen in Des Moines Young Artist Theatre’s summer production of RENT. “Playing Maureen has allowed me to free myself from societal expectations for women and fight for what I believe in. DMYAT has given me the opportunity to take everything I have learned at ISU so far and apply it over the summer to keep my skills developing.” What an OVER THE MOON performance!
