Iowa State University Department of Agricultural Education and Studies

Iowa State University Department of Agricultural Education and Studies The official account of the Agricultural Education & Studies Department at Iowa State University

The Agricultural Education & Studies department offers 2 undergraduate majors: Agriculture and Life Sciences Education and Agricultural Studies. Agricultural Studies covers the broad spectrum of agriculture and life sciences with the flexibility for students to customize the major to pursue their career goals. They can choose an area of emphasis such as farm management, agronomy and crop productio

n, agricultural law, agricultural systems and technology, or international agriculture. With this solid background in agriculture and life sciences, graduates are prepared for careers ranging from production agriculture to extension to agribusiness. The quality and flexibility of the program make this a popular major for incoming high school students as well as transfer students from community colleges. Agriculture and Life Sciences Education combines food, agriculture, and life sciences with social sciences and communications. Some students choose the teacher certification option while others choose the communications option. Graduates enter a variety of agricultural careers that include working with people in agriculture, such as education, extension, agribusiness and public agencies.

The annual AgEdS learning community egg drop activity took place Sept. 2 in Curtiss Hall. Students were tasked with creating a vessel, with provided materials, that would safely carry an egg as it was dropped from the third floor of Curtiss Hall. This team building activity is a great way to welcome our new students into the AgEdS and CALS communities. Thanks to the staff and faculty who joined us as judges from across the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
