Congratulations to our former MAPS Co-Mentorship Chair, Sudan! 🥳🎓

Sudan graduated with a major in Biology. As Co-Mentorship Chair, she helped oversee the M&M program for MAPS.

During her time at UMass, she served as a TA for Physiology and Biology 152 and served as a RA in the Health and Exercise Lab. She also completed an athletic nutrition internship with the UMass athletics department. She is currently shadowing an optometrist, cardiologist, and disability services professional.

Sudan is currently working part-time while studying for the MCAT. She plans to transition into a medical assistant role and take on hospice volunteering opportunities as she continues preparing for her future in medicine.

✨ Advice from Sudan: “If someone tells you no, you’re talking to the wrong person. You can be and do anything you want to in this life. Never let anyone deter you or tell you otherwise.”

Congratulations to our former MAPS PR Officer and Event Coordinator, Christine! 🥳🎓

Christine graduated with a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology on the Pre-PA track. Throughout her time at UMass, she was involved in research, clinical shadowing, and MAPS leadership. She worked in the Rotello Lab researching antibiotic-resistant biofilms and shadowed at Reliant Medical Group in optometry, dermatology, and pediatrics.

This September, Christine will begin working as an Emergency Technician at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She hopes to gain valuable clinical experience as she prepares for PA school. She will also continue doing nails as a creative outlet and a way to make time for something she loves.

✨ Advice from Christine: “A closed mouth never gets fed.” Send those cold emails and reach out to the opportunities you want. You never know what will stick unless you try! Remember to make time for something you love to help balance the burnout that can come with pursuing a path in medicine and healthcare.

Congratulations to our former MAPS Co-Fundraising Chair, Levana! 🥳🎓

Levana graduated with a major in Biology and a minor in Biochemistry. As Co-Fundraising Chair, she helped budget and coordinate fundraisers for the club. She also served as Secretary for the Black Student Union for two years.

Levana gained valuable clinical experience by shadowing a general surgery PA for several weeks. She had the opportunity to observe a variety of procedures in the OR, including plastic surgery and GI-related cases.

She is currently deciding between pursuing a career as a PA or physician. Over the next two years, she hopes to gain more patient care experience and shadow different practitioners to help determine which path is the best fit for her.

✨ Advice from Levana: “It is okay to not have it all figured out. We all move at our own pace. Run your own race and do not worry about the timeline of those around you!”
